Is this faint rainbow a sign
that at the end of this journey
there’s a pot of proverbial gold
that on this three day trip

Bad Mornings

I feel the searing sea of sorrow
of a youth lived less than fully,
too rigidly having followed
the perceived constraints of that time
and now staring into the face of the bully
of the inevitable process of ageing;
eyes that frustrate attempts to focus,
fingers that no longer obey the mind,
compounding aches a daily reminder
that you’re no longer
in your prime
