#OGONE40001138 is a really useful and informative error that is thrown by my #commerzbank and #firstdirect Mastercard (begins with number 5) online payment attempt on the #leshuttle #eurotunnel website but an #n26 payment card (also starting with 5) works fine. Bravo N26 which, as I have said as often as I can, utterly rocks.

Booked some Eurotunnel tickets last night, for the first time in years. The usual questions about vehicle, passengers, and then numbers of pets:
• Dogs
• Cats
• Ferrets

Excuse me, what? I know plenty of people have ferrets as pets*, but is it a common thing for people to take them on holiday with them?

* We used to have a ferret and a polecat when I was a kid, but they were for rabbiting not petting

Meanwhile on #Facebook some old boomer climate denier challenged me to drive my EV to Europe and see who wins.

Fully charged my #EV will do around 270 miles. My chosen driving route would be via Hull and the North Sea Ferries; however let's see... Dover is 232 miles away. Even on a very cold day with heaters running I'd make the terminal with about 5% energy left.

That means I can drive quite a few miles into France and even make it into Belgium before needing a charge - and that's if we go #Eurotunnel.

You see, that's the problem. They don't actually have the slightest clue what they're on about. They believe the #dailymail , #telegraph and the other right wing papers, meanwhile I drive around in a 285bhp van which will quite happily 0-60 most cars and takes me to Wolverhampton and back without me even thinking of charging.

The world has moved on. They haven't, and soon it's going to be embarrassing.

@25kV How does something like this happen in such a critical spot like the #Eurotunnel?

Edit: And would a rigid overhead system be "better"?

EES: When border checks will begin for Dover, Eurostar and Eurotunnel travellers.

The rollout of the EU’s long-delayed Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin on 12 October.

Given the challenges of implementing the new digital border system and its dedicated technology, the launch will be a phased process over six months.

The checks will be introduced gradually for Dover, Eurostar and Eurotunnel travellers.

Ich LIEBE Juni: lauter Brückentage, mit denen man dank #Interrail reihenweise Miniurlaube machen kann. Vatertagsurlaub am #MontBlanc, Pfingsturlaub in #Danzig (jetzt wirklich) und für den Fronleichnamsurlaub trau ich mich endlich an den #Eurotunnel. Je nach Wetterlage dann vielleicht noch nach #Schottland weiter. Und das alles mit einem 7-Tage-Pass 😍

Es gibt eine Bahnverbindung von Frankreich nach Großbritannien, diese führt durch den Eurotunnel bzw. Kanaltunnel unter dem Meer hindurch. Dieser Tunnel ist nicht ausgelastet, es könnten mehr Züge durchfahren. Warum eigentlich fährt kein ICE nach London?

@jon @seatsixtyone After a while you get another email saying they've confirmed the payment and slap down another load of (frankly ridiculous) stipulations (like you can't have anything in the bike bag that's not the bike!?)

Anyway, lesson learned, they don't want my business - gonna put a car on the #Eurotunnel and park it somewhere in France where I can get an onward train from next time!

And we're #home! (Actually got back yesterday but I wasn't minded to post.) Once again #Eurotunnel were actually operating enough trains to meet demand and we were able to get an earlier crossing than booked. Nice to be back in my own bed and to have a good long soak in the #bath. Showers are the default in hotels, for good reasons, but I really do prefer a bath.
