PAUL VAN DYK - Guiding Light

Still on his #Trance kick, which I'm finding kinda' funny now. It's like that whole #EDM period never existed, forever and always releasing the same music he made at the turn of the century. I'm sure it pleases the PvD faithful just fine, quite satisfied with Paul being an AC/DC of #Eurotrance.

I like this one a bit more than the last too, as it's cleaner sounding, plus has a dip into #FullOn #PsyTrance with Vini Vici. Haven't heard such genre adventurism in ages!

PAUL VAN DYK - Music Rescues Me

Really, what else was Paul to do but go back to #Trance? #EDM anthems were dusted, and current trends like #Trap, #TropicalHouse, and #Hyperpop were well outside his wheelhouse. Nah, returning to one's roots sounds better.

This carries on from the last album, more confident in execution since it proved a winner. It's quite jubilant in places too, like PvD's just so happy being alive. Could do without the breakdowns but eh, it's #Eurotrance. What're y' gonna' do?

PAUL VAN DYK - From Then On

Hailed as PvD's big comeback into actual #Trance music, and yeah, it's definitely that. Can't say it's as good as his classic stuff, as there are still some #Eurotrance tropes (ie: incessant breakdowns) preventing this from being a full-on return to '90s glory. Still, really nice hearing such peppy tunes presented with minimal fuss. Never thought I'd love hearing That Kick again!

But what do his #EDM fans think of it? Heck if I know, I've never met an 'EDM PvD' fan.

PAUL VAN DYK - The Politics Of Dancing 3

Career sagging some? Time to roll out a favored concept release to maybe lure those lost fans back, yo'!

Okay, the marketing behind this album/not-an-album #DJMix isn't *that* cynical, and this *is* better than what I've heard out of Paul's turn to #EDM of the '10s. It sounds less like a desperate bandwagon jump, with more blending of (then) modern festival anthems with #Eurotrance. Still only sounds distinctly PvD when he treads closer to #Trance tho'.

Various - VONYC Sessions 2011

Wow, wasn't expecting PvD to go THIS hard with the #Eurotrance. Don't get me wrong, it's kinda' dumb music, bangin' it out this fast, but it's my kind of dumb #Trance. It got that pep, yo'.

CD2 is more Dutch nonsense. Big, gratuitous, overblown breakdowns and builds into plodding #Anthems style-biting from #SwedishHouseMafia. Wasn't this when that whole 'Trouse' thing was happening? Hard pass.

Various - VONYC Sessions 2010

Should I even do these? 'Vonyc Sessions' looks like Paul's attempt at an annual label showcase, similar to Armin's #ASOT series, and probably with as much artistic merit. At least TPOD had some effort put into it. Well, let's see how they go for a few at least...

And yeah, mostly highlighting a bunch of trendy anthems of the day. CD1 has the #ProgressiveHouse, mostly in the Arty and Prydz vein. CD2 goes full-blown #Eurotrance bosh, and about as bricked as can be.

PAUL VAN DYK - In Between

I remember a bunch of #Trance Addicts being disappointed in this, claiming it was Paul's sell-out album, or something. How can one sell out when you're already one of the world's most popular DJs tho'?

Now, something of a bandwagon jump, I hear that. Less emphasis on vintage van Dyk #Eurotrance, more emphasis on #McProg dance pop, plus a little hitching onto trendy #SwedishHouseMafia farty #ElectroHouse. Everything's still got a smooth polish tho', so that's nice.

Various - POLITICS OF DANCING 2

Not sure why a DJ set's among Paul's albums, but whatever. This may be good, a definitive statement as #DJMag No. 1 DJ in the world.

Or not.

#Trance was going through a period of tedious homogeny at the time, and Paul's mixing is relentlessly flat and basic. Half a dozen tracks of 'token #McProg', followed by an endless parade of big, anthemic #Eurotrance you'll forget after the set's finished. CD2's the Dutchier option.

Still, good mindless 'sportsing' music.
