As much as I love Anbennar, I am really annoyed by the way the project handles releases.
Or rather how it doesn't handle them.
If one wants to grab the current released version without going through Steam, one can just check with steamdb when their Steam Workshop item was updated, and then guess which commit before that was the one the release was made from...
There are no tags or branches in the project's git repo that would indicate a release.

I just noticed that the Europa Universalis IV Ultimate Bundle is heavily discounted on GoG, and currently just costs €49.99:

Only drawback of the GoG version: No Steam Workshop support, so mod installation is a bit tedious.

I miss 2016 when #europauniversalis was popular and there was always a multiplayer game being hosted. That was peak gaming. 20-30 history nerds playing on a grand strategy map with pacts and betrayal happening in and out of the game. Secret messages planning attacks.
Obviously as with any online game there was occasional toxic behaviour but once you had a good group you could get so much fun and some great stories.
I'd love to play again if anyone would like to set something up

You rewrite the timeline, pull on one thread, and watch everything unravel differently. Every campaign is a new alternate universe worth exploring.
And then there are titles like #DistantWorlds or #Stellaris, where the same depth applies but the sandbox is an entire galaxy. Civilisations rising, collapsing, first contact scenarios, technology trees that reshape everything.
No other genre makes consequences feel this real.

Took me way too long to figure out how to create a Casus Belli in EU5 the way I am used to from CK3 and other Paradox Titles.
Made a lil' video - Basically while Parliament is in session, ask them to fabricate one losing 50% support for your agenda. Often a worthwhile price to pay.

Die #Steam Rezensionen sind mal wieder komplett verwirrend. Ein Teil sagt, dass #EU5 überhaupt nicht läuft, bei anderen läuft es perfekt, für andere wiederum ist es das beste Spiel aller Zeiten und wieder für andere ist es absoluter Schrott.

If you want to play the #EuropaUniversalis full conversion #Anbennar on Linux, you might want to switch to the Windows build and use Proton.
It seems the Linux build of EU4 is not exactly the same version as the Windows one, and the small discrepancies break some stuff in the mod...

Man merkt auch die Computerspielherkunft sehr. An vielen Stellen sind die Regeln unnötig kompliziert für ein Brettspiel aber man sieht irgendwie, dass sie das einfach vom Computerspiel so übernommen haben. Also ganz viel so Autoresolve-Zeugs zB.
Am besten gefallen hat mir das historische Thema und dass das schon sehr gut umgesetzt ist, aber das führt halt auch dazu, dass es strategisch nicht so wahnsinnig viele Optionen gibt, weil man so Missionen erfüllen muss, die nahe an der Geschichte formuliert sind aber gleichzeitig passiert ständig irgendein kompletter random Shit, der es einem schwer macht. Also diese Kombination aus strategischer Engführung und taktischem Zufall hat mir nicht gefallen.

Das war bisschen wild. Der Aufbau hat schon 1,5h gedauert. Erklären oder gemeinsam verstehen versuchen dann nochmal so lange. Wir waren insgesamt glaub über 10h da am Tisch. Gespielt haben wir dann am Ende nur insgesamt 2 Runden von 8, die das Szenario vorgesehen hatte. Aber als Kennenlernrunde Ok, das ginge dann beim nächsten Mal wahrscheinlich schon bisschen schneller, aber nen Wochenende muss man dafür selbst einplanen, wenn man die Regeln schon kann, denke ich.
Den anderen hat es gut gefallen und die wollen es wohl auch nochmal spielen. Ich war nich sooo begeistert. Also es war ganz nett mal wieder so richtig Hardcore Spielenerden, aber das Spiel als solche liefert dann doch am Ende für mich nicht den Spielspaß, der diesen Aufwand rechtfertigt.

IGN has published a new article, in which the probably next game from #Paradox is discussed. It seems to be another historical grand strategy game (nobody is surprised), and has so far the codename "Caesar".
Apparently the announcement video will be published on May 8 on the #EuropaUniversalis youtube channel, so the community is expecting #EU5.

So quickly recap some of my findings about EU4's script engine as I seek to further optimize MEIOU & Taxes. A significant performance bottleneck (identified using Luke Stackwalker) has to do with code segment, which appears to be a parser of script objects. This particular loop will iterate over the strings of individual script objects (such as scopes, triggers etc). It also seems to do some hash calculation onto rcx. -
