Four Times That Night is a Mario Bava movie. It's Rashomon done as a sex comedy. Made in 1968 but not released until 1971 by which time it seemed very tame. It's not much admired even by Bava fans but I enjoyed it. Great 60s Bava visuals.

I'm very fond of Jean Rollin’s late films like Dracula's Fiancee (2002). They have a magical vibe, reminiscent of magic realism with no attempt to explain the magical elements. Once again Rollin creates a whole new mythology. Mesmerising stuff.

Don't make the mistake of thinking of Claude Chabrol’s oddball The Champagne Murders (1967) as a Hitchcockian thriller. There’s no suspense. It's more a black comedy. You'll enjoy it more if you accept that he's teasing and toying with you.

Jane Fonda and Alain Delon shine in Rene Clement's superb Joy House (1964) which anticipates later erotic neo-noirs. Has a slightly off-kilter absurdist edge. Almost noir black comedy. A movie about game-playing and the movie itself is a game.

Castle of the Creeping Flesh (1968) is an enjoyable German eurohorror film falling into the gothic horror in a contemporary setting sub-genre, with added decadence and lots of weirdness. It's also sleazy and includes a guy-in-a-bear-suit.

Giulio Questi’s Death Laid an Egg (1968) is a weird mix of a very bad political art film (with mutant chickens) and a superb delightfully twisted giallo. It's an interesting failure but the giallo plot is excellent. Ewa Aulin is terrific.
