We now have either estimates or official results from all countries except Ireland (STV takes a long time to count).

The German conservatives claim to be the firewall against the far right (despite taking over their positions and language). In the #euelections2024 the #afd was weak in those urban communities where #diegrunen won.
The other party, that explicitly wanted to 'win back' voters from AfD (by also using some of their positions and language (and funding sources;)) was #BSW. They ended up strong where the AfD won, not instead of them. #EU2024 -

但在德國和法國，近些年右翼崛起的趨勢非常明顯。
暗自偷笑的應該是俄羅斯和中國了，
俄中可能會繼續採取分化歐盟，尋找破口的策略。想到過去歐洲綏靖的歷史，未來也許會很波折，

The actual outcome was very close to the exit poll.
https://app.nos.nl/nieuws/ep2024/GroenLinks/PvDA ended up with 8 seats, as expected, while second place PVV ended up with 6, one less than predicted by the press. The pro-EU left leaning Volt ended up with two seats, which was more than the prediction.
While some people have tried to make a lot out of a supposed low turnout, more people voted this time than in 2019 (46.2% vs. 41.9%).
The best news is that while 1/4 of the people living in my area voted for a fascist in the national election last year, only 1/7 did so in the European election. That's still too many fascist voters. But it's an improvement.
The right gained seats in Europe, but they have not taken control of the European Parliament. Locally at least they have taken a substantial step backward since last year.
Is it too much to ask if our press perhaps should stop hyping every extreme right party ?
The press doesn't need to report on every single unpleasant word from the extremists. Meanwhile they really should take more notice of green issues which are already damaging us all (see the flooding in Austria, which just voted largely extreme right). The reduction in the green vote share is IMO largely a result of poor press coverage.

Woke up to good news: there was no far right gain in Sverige’s EU representation!
With 94% counted, the right parties will have lost support since the last EU election.
I am disappointed 2 anti-immigration, anti-EU left/ish parties in Sverige gained support, but at least the only one gaining a seat (V) opposes chat control. I’m happy about Sverige’s Green (Mp) seat gain, as my third most aligned EU party.
I’m optimistic about the next 5 years for the EU!
