Hey Retro Fans!

It's time for our Catch of the Day! Tonight, we have a guest in our logs that takes us right back to the era when phones were just for calling, and smart organizers were known as "PDAs" (Personal Digital Assistants).

Just before 6:30 PM, this exotic creature showed up in the frog pond:

🏆 EudoraWeb 2.1 on Palm OS

Why this is so awesome:
Long before the iPhone or modern Android devices, Palm OS was the undisputed king of mobile productivity. You operated these devices with a small plastic stylus on resistive touchscreens (often still monochrome!).

The name Eudora probably rings a bell for many retro geeks anyway: it was the standard email client of the 90s. But what many have forgotten is that they also released a specially adapted, tiny web browser for Palm PDAs called EudoraWeb.

The fact that someone dusted off their old Palm device today, hooked it up to the net via a serial cable, infrared, or an early Wi-Fi card, and tapped out a FrogFind search with their stylus is just pure magic. This is exactly the kind of tiny display and low-power CPU that FrogFind was built for!

In the late 90's I was looking through all sorts of #email clients for #Windows. #OutlookExpress was probably the most popular but it didn't do "enough" for me. #Outlook was too bloated and was also commercial. I used something called #Eudora for a while and then found a niche client called "#TheBat" from a company based in Moldova.

It was AMAZING.

It still IS amazing. I still use it, more than 25 years later. It has never failed on me. Best email client ever created. https://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/

Weird with the two Opera GXs. I removed the older one, but now they are both gone. Oh well, it was there when I was trialling browsers and occasionally I would load it up, and it was my back-up during a buggy phase that Vivaldi had. Not really a daily driver so off it goes.
Also removed Pandora while I was at it. #Aurora has proved a better #Eudora successor.

Dammit, why did I not think of this years ago?
Have the term ‘guest post’ filtered in the new #Eudora, #Aurora. Duh.
I use them for all sorts of things but not this?!
Mind you, part of me has enjoyed entering #Gmail address after Gmail address (as this is where they usually come from) into our server spam control, to spare others on our team and client accounts.

Wow. I've tried to use Apple Mail's "Send Later" function twice as a test and it has failed spectacularly both times, neither sending the message nor storing the message in a way that I can recover it and send it manually.

I seem to remember #Eudora had this working properly in the early 90s.

If you have not tried the latest @thunderbird, do it. I've practically switched to it from Outlook. I don't need ActiveSync. IMAP works just fine. Thunderbird isn't Eduora, but it's getting better!

@dankennedy_nu Sure. Use a decent email client on your desktop computer! If you can find one. I would gladly go back to #Eudora if it were still live, updated, and good. Its searching and sorting functions were wonderful.
