Today I learned that if I want to become #Catholic but my spouse does not, I will be unable to partake in the #Eucharist or be a Catholic in good standing unless we have our #marriage annulled and then we remarry in the Church. Until then we're technically living in #sin. Only problem is, my spouse is technically a different #gender now from when we got married... that's probably going to be a problem.

I swear, I look up one video on #youtube about #hispanic #Christmas traditions and now every other video on my feed is a long confessional from someone who converted to #Catholicism about why the #Protestant denominations are wrong about the #Eucharist. Why do I continue to click on these videos? Why am I suddenly drawn to the #magisterium and the #apostolic succession and the early Church fathers? Why does YouTube want me to become a #Catholic?

Holy Thursday begins the Triduum.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper remembers the Last Supper, the gift of the Eucharist, and the example of service when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. This night invites us to reflect on humble love and faithful service. ✝️🍞🕊️

Spirituality & Religious Studies @spiritualityreligiousstudies.wordpress.com@spiritualityreligiousstudies.wordpress.com ·Stigmata
This is one of our founder’s favorite religious subjects!!! She ABSOLUTELY loves this particular subject matter. She loved the 1999 movie titled Stigmata, starring Patricia Arquette & Gabriel Byrne. She gives 9.5/10. Even though Rotten Tomatoes may not agree. If anyone is interested in watching this movie, it’s currently on PlutoTV (which is completely free) & Prime Video (you have to pay for Prime, but the movie is free to watch on Prime).
This is the bodily wounds, scars, & pain which appear in the same body parts of Jesus’ crucifixion wounds: the hands, wrists, feet, near the heart, the head (from the crown of thorns), & back (from carrying the cross & scourging). A stigma (singular) is a mark on the skin. A person having the wounds of stigmata is called a stigmatist or a stigmatic.
St. Francis of Assisi is considered the 1st recorded stigmatic. Several 20th century doctors studied St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin’s reported an astounding 50-year stigmata.
Stigmatics are usually a Roman Catholic phenomenon. The Eastern Orthodox Church offers no official view on them. In Galatians 6:17, Paul said: “…for I bear in my body the marks for the Lord Jesus.”
Some stigmatics show a few, or all, of the Five Sacred Wounds that Jesus had forced on Him during his Passion, according to Biblical passages. In the 20th century, Marie Rose Ferron had been photographed many times with the Crown of Thorns stigmata. Others reported a form that has the stigmatics “crying” tears of blood.
Many stigmatics stigmata stops & starts, especially the times after receiving the (Holy) Communion. An exceptional number of stigmatics show a great desire to take/receive Communion often.
A proportionally high percentage of stigmatics exhibit inedia. Inedia, or Breatharianism, is the alleged ability for a person/human being to live without eating food, & in some cases, drinking water. These stigmatics only eat/drink the (Holy) Eucharist exclusively.
There are even some stigmatics who claim to feel the pain of wounds that aren’t visible. This is called “invisible stigmata.”
Some stigmatics’ wounds won’t clot. The wounds stay fresh & uninfected. The blood from these wounds is said to have a pleasing, perfumed odor. This smell is called the “Odor of Sanctity.”
People who have gotten stigmata often are described as estatics. Because they’re so overwhelmed when they receive the stigmata.
Here’s a few who were stigmatics:
- St. Ansbert of Rouen
- St. Francis of Assisi
- St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina
- St. Mariam Thresia Chiramel
As of 1997, only 7 stigmatics have been declared saints by the Roman Catholic Church.

“[The Eucharist] embodies the actual presence of the grace it represents; and this grace is the very life of the Lord Jesus Christ himself."
- John Nevin, The Mystical Presence (1867)THAT is good (or better yet, faithful) Reformational sacramental theology (as opposed to the shallow memorialist theology that has infected too many Protestant churches)! That is theology that has meat to it and invites us to come, truly experience the Lord, and be utterly transformed as we encounter him. It is theology for the whole person and the whole of life, not just the life of the mind.

Quote of the day, 1 August: St. Edith Stein
Every mystery of this life that we seek to discern in loving contemplation is for us a fount of eternal life. And the same Savior, whom the written word presents to our eyes on all the paths he trod on earth in human form, lives among us disguised in the form of the eucharistic bread. He comes to us every day as the bread of life.
In either of these forms, he is near to us; in either of these forms, he wants to be sought and found by us. The one supports the other.
When we see that Savior before us with the eyes of faith as the Scriptures portray him, then our desire to receive him in the bread of life increases. The eucharistic bread, on the other hand, awakens our desire to get to know the Lord in the written word more and more deeply and strengthens our spirit to get a better understanding.

Celebrate Corpus Christi Year C, focusing on the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ. This day highlights the power and meaning of the Eucharist through readings from Genesis, 1 Corinthians, and Luke. Themes include Jesus as the Bread of Life, the eternal priesthood, and the unity of the Church. The Eucharist nourishes our spirit and calls us to care for others. #CorpusChristi #Eucharist #CatholicFaith #SpiritualNourishment #UnityInFaith https://young-catholics.com/3580/corpus-christi-year-c/

I'm getting lost in the news and don't know where to go next. Starting with #prayer today at the NE #Minneapolis Eucharistic Procession. Come, Holy Spirit!

Several parishes in my area are coming together for a #Pride in the Park #Pentecost Potluck this Sunday, June 8. We’ll begin by celebrating a #Eucharist together at 4:30 then enjoy a potluck meal (attendees are asked to bring a side or desert to share) and some social time.
I’m looking forward to getting to know some of my fellow #DioNeb #Episcopalians and hope that this will be the first of many joint events. We could all use more face to face community opportunities not to mention letting our light shine in public spaces where folks might not otherwise realize the #EpiscopalChurch is. All are welcome!

Marie du jour, 17 May: St. Thérèse
O beloved Mother, despite my littleness,
Like you, I possess The All-Powerful within me.
But I don’t tremble in seeing my weakness:
The treasures of a mother belong to her child,
And I am your child, O my dearest Mother.
Aren’t your virtues and your love mine too?
So when the white Host comes into my heart,
Jesus, your Sweet Lamb, thinks he is resting in you!…Saint Thérèse of Lisieux
Why I Love You, O Mary!, PN 54, Stanza 5
Note: We rejoice together with the entire Carmelite family to mark the 100th anniversary of the canonization of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. In his Apostolic Letter Divini Amoris Scientia, which decreed that St. Thérèse is a Doctor of the Church, St. John Paul II wrote:
Pius XI, who considered Thérèse of Lisieux the “Star of his pontificate”, did not hesitate to assert in his homily on the day of her canonization, 17 May 1925: “The Spirit of truth opened and made known to her what he usually hides from the wise and prudent and reveals to little ones; thus she enjoyed such knowledge of the things above—as Our immediate Predecessor attests—that she shows everyone else the sure way of salvation” (AAS 17 [1925], p. 213).

Some #theological hills I am willing to die on:
1) The plenary inspiration of #scripture
2) At bare minimum, adherence to the #doctrines proclaimed by the first four Councils of the undivided #church must be upheld.
3) The #eucharist / #lordssupper ought to be celebrated *weekly*.
4) The #eucharist / #lordssupper , while symbolic, is not merely symbolic but also a true/real encounter/communion with Jesus.
5) #Baptism *must* be done in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
6) Baptism is #regenerative
7) #Liturgical #worship is essential because the #bible itself reveals the Church’s worship as liturgical.
8) The #unity of the Church is not merely a spiritual reality (i.e. invisible), but a reality that ought to be visible for all the world to see.
9) Except in the cases of #heresy or wholesale unrepentant #sin within a portion of the Church, rending the Church’s unity is sinful. (So, disagreements over adiaphora are not worthy of division -- no matter how much one love's their pet theological theory)
10) All #christians must pray for and actively work towards and for the reunification of the Church. -

The word #Eucharist comes from the Greek eucharistia (εὐχαριστία), meaning “thanksgiving” or “gratitude”, formed from eu- (“well”) and kharizesthai (“to show favor, give freely”).
In early #Christian use, eucharistia referred both to the act of giving thanks and specifically to the ritual meal commemorating the Last Supper.
The #Hebrew root is berekah, which also means “#blessing” or “#thanksgiving”.
-
#Origen stressed that the #Eucharist benefits only those who receive it with #faith and #spiritual awareness; without this, it is no different than ordinary #food.

CW: eucharistic adoration
we don't exactly eat with our eyes, but ...
first of all, the #eucharist does emit radiation, by dint of having a temperature -- it's streaming photons with IR-band energy constantly, that interact with our eyes when we view it, warming them. i'm sure the effect is physically negligible but conservation of energy insists it must have some effect, so that's one.
also the eucharist is transformative, that's its entire deal. we perceive it by collecting the light that "reflects" off it in our eyeballs, meaning that light has touched the eucharist, meaning it's been transformed. there's two.
yes, it's a mystery, but it doesn't have to violate physical laws, and i like that. #christianity -
And what shape does that gratitude take? It is found in the #Christian celebration of Holy #Eucharist, the first act after one enters a new way of life after #Baptism. Eucharist means “thanksgiving” and it serves to remind us, in part, that creation is both gift and a means to encounter God. It is the tuning fork that helps us harmonize a life of gratitude for the salvation effected and freely offered through #Jesus.

That day was God-ordained:
the Father, by decree,
Laid down that you began
my Mother here to be.
I hail that joyous day:
the Triune Loving — more,
‘Excess of Charity’!
I see it, and adore.Such overflowing love! —
that’s what it is, I know,
When God, in prescient love,
arranged that this be so —
For He (that I should make
oblation here fore-known)
Had consecrated you
with unction of His own. And, from the very start,
O Mother, God was pleased
To love as one in Him
His victim and His priest:
His gaze of love on us
from all eternity,
He’ll always look and see
not two, but unity. So, if your little ‘host’
(O Pontiff, whom I love!)
Is very soon transferred
up to the Home Above,
She will be yours still more! —
I think it might be so —
Than when the night of faith
she lived in, here below.Have you not seen a priest
who’s going through the town
Carrying God, the Host,
hidden beneath his gown? —
On your maternal heart
that way, will not it be
That Laudem Gloriae
spends her eternity?Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity
P 122 [for 9 October 1906]
Note: St. Elizabeth wrote this poem for the fifth anniversary of the election of the prioress, Mother Germaine. Elizabeth refers to herself as a “victim” and “little ‘host'”; she refers to Mother Germaine as “priest” and “Pontiff”.

I'm commenting on how that mockery immediately triggered the always-bubbling rage of many right-wing Christians who chose to get their knickers all atwist with thoughts of drag queens and the Last Supper. Which shows you where many Christians' minds are, doesn't it?…
Many of the very same Christians fulminating about the Paris ceremony are those applauding Trump when he says the fix is in and they won't have to vote again.

For me, #surfing is a supplement to my life in the #Church. Surfing puts me in touch with the #ocean from which the #sacraments are derived. All water comes from the ocean, evaporated out and poured upon the land in rain. This water becomes the water of #baptism, as well as the water that swells the grapes and nourishes the wheat of the #Eucharist. The ocean was God’s first gift and from her come “the gifts of God for the people of God.”
