  1. WHY CAN’T I PLAY #EU5 ON MY IPAD F YOU @PARADORKSGAMES AND @VULVASTEAMGAMESSTEAMDECK

  2. After Two Hundred Years of the (second) Hundred Year's War, it finally runs out of time after nobody achieved the winning conditions. England controls 131 locations, France has 83 and some upstart Iberian kingdom has control over 106 locations (plus 33 with an ally). The remainder of France has no access to the sea. Their locations are incredibly fragmented making it inefficient to control and defend which is not foreshadowing at all

  3. *sigh* we're in the 190th year of the Hundred Year's War, England just announced the 8th phase and we're doing this again.

At this point it feels a bit like beating a dead horse. But I need to go along because a) I probably end up Lutheran (as Spain!) and b) I got my own plans to turn the Two Sicilies into 'My Sicily'.

  4. I'm just playing Spain during the time Columbian Exchange in #EU5 and listening to The Rest Is History episode about the same time and I'm wondering if the spread of smallpox was preventable in some way if they Spanish had behaved a bit more careful. Or was this entirely unpreventable as soon as contact was established?

  5. So I decided to look elsewhere, leave France alone, etc.

Al Habat could do with some expansion into Fez, so new adventure in Morocco (testing our new ally, the Two Siciies).

So France sees Spain distracted with all armies in North Africa, England in Civil War, so they attacked. Well, fast forward, France lost another 19 locations.

And after a short truce, this time no one distracted? What does France do? Attack again. Well 7th phase of 100y war, here we go. #EU5 #GameNarrative

  6. I really wanna stop picking on France, they're clearly the underdog now. But they just won't let me. #EU5 #GameNarrative

  7. Ah yeah, the Duchy of Athens, a catholic country ruled by a Catalan based in Gascony whose ancestral home happens to be in my appanage of Narbonne.
    #EU5

  8. Hmm, I made a boo boo with cultural acceptance and now the Aragonese and Catalan don't like me that much any more, which hits the Accepted Cultures capacity. The Problem is that I'm the dominant country for Aragonese myself and there doesn't seem to be a mechanic for asking myself. The dominant country for Catalan is the Duchy of Athens of all places.

  9. what they did was some semi-successful hit-and-run, which is how I lost quite a lot of troops, especially on the smaller front in Southeastern France and with big battles near Paris when their big army moved around my concentrated troops and threatened the unprotected sieges.

  10. anyway, this is what France (the region) now looks like and France (the nation) is smaller again

  11. So I played some #EU5 last night and was casually looking for a new direction. Beating France was mostly done and they're not that big any more, so it felt a bit like bullying. And then the absolute bonkers French decided it was their turn to attack England (my ally) for a 5th phase of the 100y War (probably event driven). So out came the keyboard and two hours later it was England's turn to demand a favourable peace. We got 9 locations, they took 13 for themselves and two vassals were released.

  12. vassalisation peace cost is 100.76% - where do I get .76% of a war from?

    #EU5

  13. I couldn't figure out a good way to attack the remainder of Aragon (without giving my nobles even more power), but then it turns out those fools were backing rebels in my country and now they rebelled with a really good Casus Belli.

    That also works in reverse.

Aragon has less soldiers than 5 of my vassals, each. Also half of my standing army, not counting levies. Utter fools.

    #EU5

  14. now I can leisurely go exploring the Azores and going on holidays without needing to worry about a marauding Napoleon in about 350 years' time.
    #EU5

  15. A truce I used to massively improve my country and France used for an forever war that drained it's levies. Can't wait to see how that turns out tomorrow

  16. CW: musing about the custom scripting language used by paradox games

not working on this mod currently, but still ambiently thinking about how #eu5 modding works.

the custom scripting language their games use dates back to Europa Universalis 2 (2001). a paradox dev explained that it was initially only used for defining objects (like "this building is named Bungus and its model file is /models/wacky/bungus.mdl), but slowly expanded to have more logic features -- things like "there should be a way to change a building's name if certain conditions are met", etc., until it eventually grew text substitution and boolean logic and loops and so on.

they tried using lua for one game but found it to be too slow, and since they already had so many team members who were familiar with their custom scripting language, they went back to it for all future games.

the langauge has a lot of weird quirks and idiosyncracies, but it works, and it's fast. i understand why it exists, and i don't think paradox should remove it, but it is a perfect example of greenspun's tenth rule.

  17. winter of 1673. the little ice age won't stop.
millions of people died. but on the other hand: some of my levies have little christmas hats :3

    #eu5 #aar
  18. so many people are dying on both sides. i'm winning, but not as hard as i want to. if only novgorod accepted my very fair peace offer then a lot of this blood wouldn't be spilled right now

  19. summer of 1665 (little ice age)
the summer invasion of 1665 starts with a massive offensive to the capital of novgorod. the goal is to siege it down before the great russian winter hits and decimates my forces

  20. 1621
it's coming down to this. being king of muscovy, novgorod, vladimir, ryazan, and kazan, i must now seek rivalry with the principality of kyiv in the south.

    #eu5 #aar
  21. 1594
managed to get novgorod back under my wing. vladimir also suspiciously decimated in size, and their ally vanished from earth altogether. it's all coming to plan

    #eu5 #aar
  22. russia 1578
recently learned that it is better to not annex provinces; rather, you want to liberate and then immediately vassalize them. this causes less perceived aggression.
i managed to partition vladimir to the north (gordets) and also have kazan as an orthodox christian tributary estate. i also have samara. that's about two million people as vassals. i am starting to become quite powerful.
right now my goal is to make moskva as populous as possible. i have 275k people living there. i'm actively encouraging migration there, but it's hard.

  23. europe in 1545 is a bit of a mess

  24. winning not just on the battlefield, but in diplomacy as well

    #eu5 #aar
  25. been drilling the military for the past few months. soon, they will be ready to fight against vladimir, karachev, and kostroma. i've already been fabricating a casus belli and i'm waiting for the most opportune moment to strike…

    #eu5 #aar
  26. russia, 1497.
we slowly emancipated ourselves from the marriage union with vladimir.
managed to have ryazan as a vassal in the process of integration; novgorod to the north is in my marriage union as well. working on changing union's laws so i can usurp their throne

    #eu5 #aar
  27. woah buddy, no need to get that personal

    #eu5 #aar
  28. started a new eu5 campaign yesterday. this time, as mercantile muscovy in russia. i want to conquer ryazan to the south. and smolensk. they're rich cities, lots of taxes to be had there. i need that

  32. #EuropaUniversalis5 ist echt schwer zu meistern. Im ersten Anlauf habe ich mich in einer Koalition verfangen und im zweiten wurde ich Bankrott.
