Well so much for an early night, I've just watched all of 'dirty business', a three part docu-drama about the terrible state of the UK water industry and the pathetic state of its Government regulator.
Thatcher, Cameron & Truss, who'd think they'd be the bad guys?
I feel conflicted about some of it. If those sewage plants were as terribly maintained as shown then while its obviously bad that the water company is not maintaining things properly its also terrible that the inspectors are not inspecting. Whether the water company or the inspectors are private or publicly owned that fact doesn't change. Who poiices the police? Smarmy Eton turds who've escaped untreated but polished, that's who....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_Business_(TV_series)

Hello. I joined Friendica in October of 2024, after Facebook closed their Basic Mobile site (not app). I live in New Jersey and am forty-one years old. Some of my interests include studying dandyism, nineteenth-century grammar, Upper Received Pronunciation, British history, and the Regency. I like coffee, tea, wine, nasal snuff, cooking, hot baths, reading British literature, watching nature and historical documentaries, gardening, hot weather, and playing cards and dice. I also love cats. In classical music, I enjoy Baroque through a bit of early Romantic, while in popular, I usually prefer 1950's through 1970's. I love theatre (especially English and Viennese operettas, Edwardian musical comedies), and some Regency/Georgian plays. I prefer antique menswear and accessories. It's my dream to either buy a genuine Edwardian suit or have one commissioned. I love wit, wordplay, and dry humour without vulgarity. My parents are lesbians, and I am a huge gay rights supporter, but I stop short of using singular they and promoting the idea of more than two sexes, though you can certainly lean more towards one while being the other (as I do being a masculine woman), or change from one to the other via hormones, surgery etc. I have been totally blind since I was two months old, due to Retinopathy of Prematurity.I am happily childfree and am not religious. I hardly ever write about politics. I tend to get along better with people older than I, but I will accept friends twenty-one and over. I have no understanding of chronic illness, anxiety, depression, loneliness, etc. I enjoy hearing about cats, cooking or gardening adventures, antiques, and interesting life stories.
This is my journal. Anyone can read or comment, whether or not he is a member.

I'm in awe right now, but I need some advice. For several years, I've been seeking the book that Beau Brummell used to learn Latin. I know it was Introduction to the Latin Tongue for the use of Youth. There were many different editions, including The famous, but later, Eton Latin Grammar. He attended Eton from 1786 to 1794. I have a digital copy of one published in 1795, wich fits the timeframe perfectly, but it's a mess when trying to read the "full text" with NVDA (my screen reader) or to convert the pdf to text. Likewise, I have one from about 1824-5 that is a reprint of 1795, and though it's a bit clearer, it's still full of errors. The hard copy reprints I've found are all pictures of the originals, not cleanly retyped. Just now, I found an original 1824 edition, and it's in clean condition! I'm quite afraid, because I am totally blind, and in order to read it, I must hold it and turn the pages so that my software can scan it! I can either use my ArX Vision, which I wear on my head, or my Pearl Document Scanning Camera with Openbook. Either way, I would be touching a book that's 200 years old! However, no one seems to have a modern copy that is retyped. All are just pictures of old editions, and when I try to convert the pdfs to txt, or to read the pre-made html versions (all at the Internet Archive), they are full of errors! This would be fine in English, but I'm using the book to learn Latin!

As a side note, here is my post in which I explain my search for a Latin tutor. I have not yet found one. If you think you can help me, please read said post before simply writing that you are a tutor. I am not using modern methods or pronunciation.

Finally, this is the syllabus for the pre-1868 Eton College curriculum that I created after a lot of research. It includes links to the books I plan to use, as well as extras.

At the end of the interview, Stewart sums up by saying "you get the sense that [#Kwarteng] is very clever". I didn't. I got the sense that he was rather stupid, rather shallow, rather trivial; but very posh.
And I think that the problem at the heart of UK parliamentary politics is that they mistake a posh accent for intelligence.

I have this set, witch was gummy and sticky because of the bad quality of the plastic. Those kinds of plastics became sticky with time.
The only way to make usable again, was to clean it with alcool.
It work, but it's not nice.
I have another set witch is in better condition, and I'm searching a better solution.
If somebody know...
