    My reread of Eth's Skin continues! As always, there will be spoilers.
    Chapter 2
    We start with a cover page as Eth peeks over a fallen tree towards the selkie. Picking up where the previous chapter left off, Eth finds they cannot let go of the pelt. She explains that the pelt comes with mind-whammy magic which prevents Eth from giving it back, but might allow him to hide the pelt from her. Foreshadowing! Eth protests that their pelt-stealing isn't their fault, which does not impress our selkie friend. I like how she's eating Eth's food while Eth just stands there helplessly holding her pelt.

    Eth snaps their warning device, and suddenly a bunch of black birds all repeat the name "Toby."

    Toby arrives, and sees what's happened. Ah Eth, hiding your boat? The longer you're on land, the harder it will be to let go of the pelt. Toby warns that if Eth hides the pelt, that will be even worse. Also, this is the first time Eth says they are not a beachwalker.

    It's the evening when Eth and the selkie arrive back in town. I just noticed all the flags hanging up on the dock. Hi Goblin! Now Miira and her girlfriends enter Eth's home (first confirmation that Miira is poly!) Oh and the selkie's name is Rel. I love Eth's rapid change in expression to furious, to questioning, and back to furious as she needs to ask Eth's pronouns. Now Eth finally freaks out.

    Toby's mom is here, but she explains that moss witch magic is not as strong as selkie magic. So now our hero gets their quest: Eth must travel to the Deep Waters in the north, where some ancient relic might be able to release them from the pelt's hold. But they have to do it fast, before the urge to hide the pelt becomes irresistible. We get a map. Miira's merfolk friend Amin can help part of the way, and so can Toby. Eth looks completely overwhelmed.

    As Rel sleeps in Eth's hut, Eth chats with Miira on the dock. Oh good, Miira agrees to Goblin-sit. We got the most important question out of the way. End of chapter!

    Now, the extra sketches. We have all the main characters, and an explanation of Toby's bird form. One thing I appreciate is the art on the back cover, and I'd love to see a version without the text on top of it. In Chapter 1, the back cover showed the fae with the fork they took from Toby. No animals or magical creatures are obviously visible on the Chapter 2 back cover.

    So, after the strange ending to the first chapter, we leave the second chapter with an explanation as to why Eth did what they did, and what their task is going forward. Come back tomorrow to see me ramble about the final chapter!

    It's time for another reread with commentary of a comic I read years ago. This time I will be rereading Eth's Skin by Sfé R. Monster. My relationship with this comic is different from the others I've given commentary on. Eth's Skin was abandoned mid-story. I started reading it after it ended, knowing that I would not get a resolution. I still enjoyed it enough that I want to reread it.

    Spoilers incoming!

    Chapter 1:
    We start with a gorgeous cover illustration of our protagonist Eth fishing, with Goblin the seal next to them. As the story opens, Eth is in a rowboat fishing while Goblin swims around them. The scene is very cute. Uh oh, Eth spies someone through their binoculors. Back on the dock, Eth meets their merfolk friend Miira. Ah right, the fish they caught are giant. Eth carries Miira into town. Now, Eth shares their thoughts that the creature they saw earlier was a selkie. Miira doesn't think so.

    The next day, Eth plans to go see their friend who is a "beachwalker" (lives on land), but Miira refuses to come with them. Miira swims off to talk to some orca whales.

    Eth arrives at the house of their friend Toby and his family. On right, Toby is trying to strike a deal with fae. I wish we got to see more of that plotline before the series ended. And here is Toby (and the fae)! The fae take what Toby was offering them and leave without giving him anything. Oops! Wow, I love the banter between these two. Toby lost his sea legs, literally, in a trade with a mermaid (but not Miira). Toby loves getting into trouble with magical creatures: I can see why these two are friends.

    It's nice to see a well-functioning family. Toby's moms explain that selkies were previously trapped by beachwalkers who would steal their pelts, leading selkies to avoid land. Toby's parents give Eth a spell to help them hide and wait for the mysterious creature. Toby won't come with...ironic, if Toby were there I bet he could have helped Eth avoid trouble, given Toby's immunity. And here we go: Eth meets the selkie, and...grabs her pelt off of her! Why would they do such a thing? We'll find out next chapter.

    Bonus content: character sketches!

    This was a fun first chapter overall. There's a lot of lore thrown at us fairly quickly, but the characters are easy to like right away.
