"The bill also drew criticism from the left. #Washington Ethnic Studies Now, a nonprofit advocacy group seeking to reform the state’s mandated #ethnicstudies classes around “anti-racist educators,” rejected both versions of the bill.
On Instagram, the group said one proposed version of the bill “empowers one white-led organization responsible for writing our multi-ethnic genocide curriculum,” referring to the #Holocaust center. It also outlined its broader concerns with the bill, saying it “emphasizes a biased framing of #genocide, prioritizing one genocide over the others, and excludes communities who have experienced genocide that are not officially recognized due to the inconsistent and political nature of international courts.”

"Almond-Eyed* *came and went* *with little fanfare, but it was the vanguard of what would be a wildly popular genre…at least 23 works of fiction…between 1878 and 1918…The language and themes of these early works would reverberate through the genre for well over 100 years, haunting us today"

I should say that we define "linguistics" (and, for that matter, "literature") extremely broadly. It is true that "language geek" appears nowhere in our charter, but that's really what unites us. There are lots of adjacencies, I think, in #DigitalHumanities, #CompRhet, #EthnicStudies, and other fields. Our recent panels (smash hits, I'll have you know) were on the subject of linguistic justice and language inclusivity, for example -- a matter of broad interest, I think, to humanists in general. So if these terms tug at your heartstrings in some way, you're probably a perfect fit!
