    Laurent Garnier - Homelands 2002 DJ Set

    remember listening to this on the radio back then, like 5am at an after party

    proper peak time, underground set, was broadcast live from the festival

    dark, funky, almost evil sound in places, so good

    This is glorious. For me, KI/KI is one of the best DJs of the last few years. Always a great listen, with lots of acid and trancey elements, and this mix is absolutely fantastic.

    Really good to see her getting recognition on BBC's Essential Mix this week. Has to be an early contender for Essential Mix of the year. Just... so... good.

    Absolutely love Chris Stussy’s #EssentialMix this week - superb early-mid 90s sound. The unknown track at ~21 mins is driving me nuts as the bass line and strings are so familiar, but I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of.

    In college I discovered #BBC #Radio1's #EssentialMix - not living in the UK, it was only through Napster and Limewire rips from cassettes recorded from the radio.

    I referenced David Holmes’s excellent remix of The Sabres of Paradise’s “Smokebelch II” the other week, and was chuffed to hear it played on the very first #EssentialMix back in ‘93 (around the 85min mark).

    I only just discovered R1 were doing the Essential Mix 30 year celebration… so many memorable mixes in there. A lot to get through 😅

    Not yet, I'm importing 20 yrs of OE/WLM/eml, PST and old TB mail archives into a single new #Thunderbird profile; while I'm surface level testing the 5 old drives in my new disk enclosure, so I can turn that into a 2TB RAID array to be used for my in-progress #Funkwhale instance hosting my collection of 90s dance music CD rips and BBC1 #EssentialMix archives, all while i investigate self-hosted Dropbox alts.
