The interview appeared in an evening news feature on the effects of fewer #children on local child-focused #businesses. Brienna said research suggests attitudes towards having children are shifting among #youngergenerations based on findings from her ‪#ESRC -funded UK #GenerationsandGendersurvey project youtu.be/H0sj8LWcMUw?si=SicgEx

  3. 📄 A newly published #ESRC #ConnectingGenerations study shows that the way #youngpeople move from school into #work has lasting effects on whether they own a #home or have #savings and #investments by their early 30s, with #family background amplifying these outcomes.

Dr Vincent Ramos, lead author, said: “Policies addressing early #labourmarket instability and improving access to #assetbuilding opportunities are crucial to reducing long‑term #inequality.”

  10. The reasons are myriad, “but key is a change in the #labourmarket”, says Professor Jane Falkingham, Director of the #ESRC Centre for #Population Change and Connecting #Generations.

The #dual-earner model means women are often delaying having #children from their 20s to their 30s, which can lead to fewer #births or not having as many children as they would've liked. The key is more #genderparity in #relationships.

  11. Just for starters, we have to say, it yet again, and tiredly, a recession is not the same thing as #degrowth. You can't buck the laws of ecology and planetary systems, and growth doesn't deliver the social benefits airily claimed for it. #ESRC

  12. Scientifically and philosophically illiterate piece from the Executive Chair of #ESRC. On this they wouldn't have funded Tim Jackson's research programme at CUSP. Hilariously the image almost looks like an advert for #degrowth

  21. I was just made aware that the National Centre for Research Methods has archived and made available more than 20 resources we (Anna Brown, Tim Croudace, Jan Stochl & I) produced 2010/2011 for various introductions to Item Response Models and social science measurement.

Naturally they are now a bit dated, but in case you know nothing about these topics, they might still serve as a good introduction with worked examples, data sets, etc:
