Kennt jemand gute Einstiegstutorial zum HTR? Ich möchte ein Model für HTR der polnischen und deutschen Handschrift für eigene Forschungszwecke entwickeln, bin ich aber in der Tesseract Dokumentation völlig lost.

Dnes jsem nadšený z #CESNET. Během několika hodin pro náš výzkumný projekt dedikovali kýženou infrastrukturu pro #eScriptorium. Během dopoledne nainstalováno a už nám to běží. Kdybychom měli totéž provozovat přímo na ústavu, stálo by nás to několik set tisíc. Takto je to pro projekt zdarma v rámci vědecké infrastruktury.

Handwritten Text Recognition hat sich zur Schlüsseltechnologie der digitalen Geschichtswissenschaft entwickelt. Doch die Wahl der Plattform – #Transkribus oder #eScriptorium – ist weit mehr als eine technische Frage:

Die Entscheidung für eine HTR-Plattform beeinflusst auch, wie historische Quellen gelesen, verstanden und ausgewertet werden.

As part of an Atrium workshop, my colleague Susan & I are trying to prepare #trainingdata to build a special #HTR model for early 20th-century handwriting from the British Isles in #escriptorium. Unfortunately, none of the existing #kraken models worked as a basis. We are now experimenting with different hands & image qualities. Dirty images (see below) distorted our model, so we focus on clean samples. Are other researchers interested in codeveloping a ground truth with us? Let us know!

The wonderful Gerald Schwedler at the University of Kiel (@kieluni) is offering a summer school in #Transkribus, #eScriptorium and #NodeGoat from 28 to 31 July. It's online, free and open to everyone! The teaching language is German. Register here by 24 June:

Training #eScriptorium for #Greek #minuscule #manuscripts #HTR: Now working on ms. no. 5 (out of initial 38) #Vatican manuscripts.

In preparation for the next #critical_editions we'll be working on (#Hesychios of Jerusalem, Commentarius magnus in Psalmos and #Cyril of Alexandria, De adoration et cultu in spiritu et veritate; but also for the ongoing critical edition of the homilies of #Severian of Gabala), we're currently training #HTR models for #Greek (#grc) manuscripts and early print – with the help of #eScriptorium and #kraken.
