  1. The last major feature for #escoria 4.0.0 is in! We’re down to bug fixes and then it’s on to a proper beta release.

    Stay tuned!

  2. Big news from the world of #Escoria ! (Well, at least in our estimation.)

Escoria’s documentation has been fully updated, including living documentation based on docstrings.

This includes docs for ASHES (the replacement for ESCscript) and is fully updated for the Godot 4-port of Escoria.

We need community feedback to help close any gaps so head on over to docs.escoria-framework.org/en/

Thanks to everyone for all their patience over the past year!

  3. #Escoria has now officially been ported to #Godot 4! Feel free to check it out, but we’re currently in the middle of updating the docs as well as some of the supporting GitHub Actions.

Feedback and testing is always welcome, especially as we work to iron out some bugs.

Stay tuned for an Escoria #gamejam coming in the near future, which we’re going to use to really flush out as many bugs and issues as possible!

  4. Really digging #Godot 4’s ability to generate custom docs based on its updated docstring/commenting features!

Go check out the “—gdscript-doc” flag if you’re interested. Thanks to @StraToN for finding this little gem.

Auto docgen will live on in #Escoria !

  5. @gee Je commence un peu pour m'amuser. #Escoria n'est pas encore totalement prêt, mais j'avais vraiment envie de voir ce que ça donnait. #godotengine

  7. I miss being neck-deep in language and compiler creation.

It’s a good feeling knowing your interpreter can be repurposed for static analysis for your new scripting language.

Things are looking up for #Escoria ladies and gentlemen.

    #godotengine #indiegamedev #gamedev

  8. Adding some static analysis tool scripts to #Escoria for our new #ASHES interpreter as part of the Godot 4 port. We want to head off problems before runtime.

Are you SURE you want to allow your player to move around during an “exit scene” event? We’ll make sure you know about it while you’re still developing!

  9. The port of #Escoria port to #Godot 4 is making steady progress. Not bad for a couple of devs picking away at it in their off-hours!

  10. A belated Merry Christmas from the #Escoria team! Have a super great holiday season!

  12. Savegame overhaul and new interpreter have now been merged! One step closer to releasing it to the public.

Next step: the #Godot 4 migration! THEN we’ll look at releasing the first version of it as we try it out on a small project.

    Exciting times!

    #Escoria #gamedev #indiegamedev #godotengine

  13. Rebase and initial regression testing complete! Time to work on finishing the save system update and integration w/ ASHES!

  14. Sloooowly getting back to #Escoria. Still lots of testing and bug hunting to do with the updated save game system and ESCscript update being merged in.

Fun fact: the tentative name of the new ESCscript language is “ASHES”.

  15. We're using a 1920x1080 canvas size for our #FediJam adventure game and I'm preparing to knock up some programmer character animations to go with that.

So while I work today, I'm trying to learn about proportionality and scale, which is in part covered by this pixel art class video:

Pixel Art Class - What's The Right Canvas Size? - Character Sizes
    youtube.com/watch?v=upEGBGCiWE

I originally concluded that Escoria's demo character, the rather punchable Graham (no relation to Graham of Daventry) was far too big for how I'd like to imagine a P&C adventure protag to be when in Escoria's default setting, but it's also become clear that I'm working on far too vast a scale for my programmer art (TM) and should be upscaling Graham (200px tall) more to match my 1080 scene height.

But also maybe everything needs to be lower res?

We need to set some firm rules about proportion and, maybe, depth. Or wing it on a scene-by-scene basis, as there's only going to be maybe three scenes, tops.

Okay, back to paying work now.

    #Escoria #Godot #GameDev

  16. @gugames hey you never know. Work just makes it so I want to do nothing afterwards. But I need to force myself back into things. I’d really love to get back to developing #Escoria and getting it into a releasable state, then use it to make some more PnC games!

Btw: looking forward to your next release!

  17. @HauntedOwlbear I am the lead developer of #Escoria. It is not for me to say whether it is a thing, but we try :) I you have any question, feel free to ping me or @DevOrionGames who's helping hugely on this project.

  18. @deadsuperhero Thank you for the wink :) @Kaution I'd not recommend using a framework such as #Escoria if you are wanting to learn #GodotEngine. Learning Godot alone first is a better idea and reading the official docs is a great starting point: docs.godotengine.org/
If you prefer video tutorials, there are plenty out there, search for @gdquest for example.

  19. @miskatonicstudio @nathanhoad I'd suggest making some kind of adapter between GOAT and any dialogue system like we did it in #Escoria. That way the designer can device which dialogue system works best for their game.

  20. My partner is absolutely crazy ❤️ He got me a #SteamDeck OLED for my birthday 😲🥰

And also a coupon for another joint #gamedev experience, once more with #Godot, but this time also #Escoria because we want to learn how to create Point&Click adventures 😊

And I now also have a Badgey figurine and a Moopsy plushy in the house 😬 And of course an amazing cake 😄

  21. Small reminder : feel free to join me this evening at twitch.tv/straton__ for some #Escoria fixing and discussing, using #godotengine !

  22. So, let's go for it! I'll try to make an #Escoria dev stream tomorrow Thursday, March 14th, at 6.30 pm CET. I'll do a small introduction of this nice #pointandclick framework for #godotengine (in English) as well as some bug fixing. See you tomorrow!

  23. #Escoria is looking for some testers! If you like point and click adventure games and #godotengine then this is for you!

    #indiegamedev #gamedev

  24. Holy sh*t!

I just spent the past hour talking to THE Ben Chandler without even knowing it! And he’s even considering trying out #Escoria !

    Colour me impressed!

  25. If any compiler/interpreter implementers are keen, I’d welcome feedback (but not too harsh) for the interpreter I’ve made in #GDScript for #Escoria. It’s coming along.

The lack of exception handling makes this a challenge and I haven’t finished putting in all the manual checking but I’d still appreciate any constructive feedback.

It’s GDScript-/Python-esque and is limited in scope. DM me!

  26. I might be a dev for #Escoria but I’m all about #foss and finding as many good tools as possible.

If Escoria isn’t your speed, definitely check out github.com/mapedorr/popochiu, esp if you’re an #AGS or #PowerQuest fan.
