I'm sure there are some people here who enjoy the SciFi stories published at the Escapepod podcast.
R.S.A. Garcia has had several novella length stories published on the podcast, and i think they are superb space opera adventures.

Deals directly with the idea you suggest of AI as emotional guidance systems. But less utopian outlook because:
* The tech assumes jockeying for social hierarchy will still be important.
* By default, the tech seems to bake-in designer values, rather than user values.
