  2. I think enhanced rock weathering (#ERW) has the potential to scale as a CO₂ removal (#CDR) technique, but there's no f**king way that they can be sure that they've removed 50 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere right now. We don't have the #MRV techniques to do this today.

  3. Enhanced rock weathering (#ERW) seems like a promising way to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere. However, this paper says that to remove 1 billion tonne of CO₂ per year requires land area larger than the entire United States.

  4. Silicates were applied to Hubbard Brook Forest in New Hampshire. Mining, grinding, transport, and application of the mineral released 18 to 87x more CO₂ than was removed by enhanced rock weathering (#ERW) over 15 years.

We should absolutely research and develop ERW as #CDR, but it will be a long time (if ever) before these industrial processes are decarbonized and we cannot count on ERW as a climate solution until it removes more CO₂ than it releases.
