Love After Death (1968), a 1968 erotic horror film of obscure origin. It starts with a man being buried alive. He survives, he pursues women and people try to kill him again. It becomes increasingly nutty, but in a good way. Wonderfully crazy.

#EroticHorror is a weird genre. It might make you think about the frequent inclusion of sexuality in American horror or slasher movies, and there's certainly an aspect of that. But where I could never stand those kinds of films, erotic horror is sometimes alluring in a way that is hard to resist.

But erotic horror is so much more than that — it's fundamentally an examination of the way our sexual desires can be dark and at conflict with our rational self. Desires to harm others, to be harmed, to act out, or to abandon what we 'should' want and do. Sexual desires run very deep, and tangle with our most primal psychologies. They can force us to confront our psyche in ways that few other things can, and hold fascinations that defy our ordinary 'proper' lives.

The Nude Vampire (1970), second of Jean Rollin's vampire films.

You might expect a straightforward erotic horror movie. If so you’re going to become very disoriented very quickly. Rollin was a surrealist. I don’t mean he just used surrealist images and techniques to add atmosphere. This movie is surrealism all the way through.

My latest folly is upgrading my entire collection of Jean Rollin's films from DVD to Blu-Ray.

I don't normally do this (I'm not obsessed with the Blu-Ray format) but the DVDs are from the early DVD era. And we are talking about Jean Rollin, just about my all-time favourite film director.

It's an expensive project.
