  1. THE WILDCAT - Ernst Lubitsch - 1921 - ★★★⭑
    ----
80 minutes of slapstick comedy, with kitsch interior sets but charming snowy outdoor scenes, this farce, which criticizes the army, is highly inventive in its use of geometric masks and comical situations.

  2. LA CHATTE DES MONTAGNES - Ernst Lubitsch- 1921 - ★★★⭑
    ---

4. Sadly, there’s no #SilentFilm or transitional sound films on this week’s TCM schedule until next week’s #SilentSundayNight: The comedy “Die Austerprinzessin” AKA “The Oyster Princess” (1919) starring Ossi Oswalda

  7. Just a head’s up: This week there’s only 2 #SilentFilm on TCM: Harold Lloyd’s comedy “Speedy” on Tuesday morning and next #SilentSundayNights has the Ernst Lubitsch dramedy “3 Women”

  8. Anna Boleyn (1920) is by far the most conventional of Ernst Lubitsch's early silent films and the most disappointing. It's a by-the-numbers historical tragic romance epic. Lubitsch was always at his best when he was being wild and crazy.

  9. Ernst Lubitsch's Eyes of the Mummy (1918) sounds like a horror film but it's a romantic melodrama although there's an ancient Egyptian tomb and a curse, and strange and inexplicable events. Pola Negri stars. Early Lubitsch is so wild and crazy.

  12. The Oyster Princess is a 1919 German Ernst Lubitsch film, described perfectly as a grotesque comedy. An American millionaire decides to buy a prince for his daughter. Good-natured fun with typical early Lubitsch crazy bizarre touches.
