Very interesting long read on “value capture” — when measurements like grades, citation counts, or step counts take over the true values (learning, writing, health) you actually care about. Also related to “stop the numbers game” by David Parnas (“Counting papers slows the rate of scientific progress”).

@alastairdunning This is indeed very excellent and celebration worthy. Utrecht University is far from perfect, but I am very proud of the forerunner role UU has taken in Recognition and Rewards.
Are courses with "Community Engaged Learning-like components" a good place to start, or do they water down educational outcomes too much? How to ensure that CEL efforts by educators are recognized and rewarded, and educators using CEL supported?
So many questions, such a bouquet of answers. How does your institute do this?
