Turns out I’m only a couple of years older than Hip Hop. It’s literally the novel musical form of my generation then. Sometime in the very early ‘90s, a mate at college spent his summer in NY. He came back with this C90 tape of Hip Hop mixes for me. Schooly D, Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J.
