  1. The view outside our front window right now is stupendous. That's Rhododendron pseudochrysanthum on the right (about 5' tall) and Rhododendron davidsonianum 'Ruth Lyons' towering on the left.

Ruth Lyons, for whom the superlative selected form is named, along with her husband Marshall, were charter members of the American Rhododendron Society. Ruth was involved in developing Hendricks Park Rhododendron Garden in Eugene, Oregon.

  2. Throughout Melbs right now, #azelea’s are out in bloom and they’re everywhere!

They produce such gorgeous flowers… so many different varieties and colours. And their patterning is something else.

A truly special and visually pleasing plant.

    Did you know? 🤔

    Most azaleas are poisonous.

They contain #Grayanotoxins, which are a group of closely related neurotoxins.

Grayanotoxins are produced by #Rhododendron species and other plants in the family #Ericaceae.

  3. Pseudoflower of Exobasidium ferrugineae growing on rusty staggerbush (Lyonia ferruginea). I wouldn't be at all surprised if these fruiting bodies emitted floral odors. Archbold Biological Station, Venus, FL, USA. Happy #FungiFriday. #fungi #fungus #Ericaceae
