Ok, after a little hiatus, I am back with more quiz questions about the EU! (I do this because I am studying for the civil service exam called EPSO)
What is the name of the European transport policy responsible for connecting European cities via rail and other means of transport?

I'm experiencing issues with the new version of the EU training website.
When simulating an exam, pictures often don't load (I need to click on reload to see them) and both the calculator and the scratchpad don't integrate well with the keyboard.
For instance, after writing a calculation, if I click on "Enter" it doesn't show me the result, but it adds the same number to the last typed one. It's really annoying!

@hpod16
Yes, it makes sense.I didn't mean to discourage you from posting EU Knowledge questions.
It's a fun way to review and we're grateful for the work you put in those surveys.
[BTW now you can also include pictures in surveys, so long text could be provided that way].Also, are they not sending the EU material to study 2 months in advance anymore? It's not mentioned anymore.

I called #TAO this morning. While #Proctorio can be installed on #Opera browsers (closed source but still EU-based), the #TAO software doesn't work on it. The browser is not supported.
I think it's incoherent to boast about open source support and sovereignty in the #EUSovereignty Package introduced a month ago while completely relying on US tech for the EU staff selection process.

@hpod16
About that, the new announcement messed up my studying plan completely. Now I believe I mainly need to focus on the reasoning tests, since there are at least 3 months between the reasoning tests and the following ones.I'm really not sure I will pass the reasoning tests. Given the number of candidates, I fear they'll be extremely difficult.

@worldwidewerner I am studying for the EU Civil Service exams, called the #EPSO after European Personnel Selection Office.
I do these little knowledge questions for fun, but also to make studying for myself. Tagging everything with #EPSOprep is my way to find all those exam questions back when it gets closer to the exams -
The correct answer here was #RobertSchuman. he was born in Luxembourg and educated in Germany and France. He served as France’s Prime Minister and foreign minister, and he authored the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950, where he proposed pooling coal and steel resources, to prevent future wars. He was also instrumental in creating #NATO.

Which person, who is named as one of the founding father of the #EuropeanUnion was born #OnThisDay in 1886?
-
This may be far fetched, but I was thinking, since the official requirements for #Proctorio include only #Microsoft #Edge and #Google #Chrome browsers 🇺🇸 , do you think I could file a complaint to the Ombudswoman for political discrimination, in case an individual upholds EU digital sovereignty values?
The extension can be installed on all chromium-based browser, such as Brave and Opera 🇪🇺 , but it's not guaranteed to work.

#EU judicial independence guarantees: a tension even scholars debate. Did you know judges at the Court of Justice of the European Union are appointed by national governments -after meeting strict requirements and safeguards-?

Which two funds finance the Common Agricultural Policy?

Correct answer: B
According to Rule 131 of the Rules Of Procedure of the European Parliament, "the motion of censure shall be adopted if it secures a two-thirds majority of the votes cast, representing a majority of the component Members of Parliament".
https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/RULES-10-2025-01-20-RULE-131_EN.html
Last motion of censure against the Von der Leyen Commission was tabled by The Patriots for Europe in January 2026 and rejected.
-
The correct answer here was…. 55% of member states (so 15 out of 27) representing at least 65% of the EU population.
Qualified majority is the voting system most frequently used in the Council, with about 80% of all EU legislation adopted through it.
This is because a qualified majority applies when the Council takes decisions under the ordinary legislative procedure, which is the primary decision-making process for adopting EU laws.https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/council-eu/how-does-the-council-vote/qualified-majority/

Under which voting conditions can the European Parliament pass a motion of censure forcing the mass resignation of the European Commission?
-
In the Council of the European Union, where the EU Member States meet, decisions are often made by what we call "Qualified Majority Voting", or QMV. How many votes are needed to pass a law under QMV?
(In the interest of shortening answers: MS= Member States, pop=population)

Most of you got the answer right!
There are in fact more steps to the European Citizen initiative, but this is all I could fit in the short poll field of Mastodon.
Before you even launch an initiative, you have to find 7 EU citizens living in 7 different EU countries to join your cause.
Once the initiative is registered for voting you need 1 million signatures from at least 7 EU countries, and a minimum threshold in those.
All the steps are listed here:
https://citizens-initiative.europa.eu/how-it-works_en -
With the European Citizen initiative, citizens can call on the EU to propose new laws. Once it has been registered and opens for voting, how many signatures are needed?

The Ombudsman is elected for a 5-year renewable term by the EU Parliament.
The #Ombudsman deals with complaints and carries out inquiries into cases of alleged maladministration in the activities of the EU institutions, bodies, offices and agencies, except the CJEU.
Currently the position is held by an Ombudswoman, Teresa Anjinho, whose offices are in Brussels and Strasbourg.

All three of these options are actually European Parliament Buildings!
The Louise Weiss building is the one in Strasbourg, the one in Brussels is named after Paul-Henri Spaak and the one in Luxembourg is named after Robert Schuman!
You can learn more about the buildings here: https://historicalarchives.europarl.europa.eu/home/cultural-heritage-collections/buildings.html -

Sure, here's an overview: https://european-union.europa.eu/institutions-law-budget/institutions-and-bodies/types-institutions-and-bodies_enSome context that I explained at the start of this #EPSOprep series:
I am studying for an exam about the EU, that would allow me to become a civil servant. It's called the #EPSO, which stands for European Personnel Selection Office.
This year they are organising the first exam for "generalists" since 2019, and 170k people signed up. So I am making content out of my efforts to prepare, so sometimes I get real niche...
