  2. I do not remember this outfit. Maybe the hat… but in recent years they’ve been using flesh tone gloves to make him hold things (in this case, lilies), which changes the look. Plus, they're very strict, usually the outfit is on for one day only, so I miss a bunch.
Even in the rain, midtown keeps shining brightly. I love NY.

  3. I remember being taught in high school that Easter symbols were appropriated from a pagan goddess, "Estras" and I didn't question it because the fertility symbols made sense. Turns out it seems like that was wrong after all and the rabbits and eggs have fully Christian origins.

  5. I hope you all have a brilliant day, 🙏
the sun here in the ancient kingdom of Pengwern is shining but the morning mist has not yet cleared.

I'll be off for brunch with my wife, then meet my son to guide him for a walk (he's blind) and a beer, as we explore local pubs after he moved.

Later I will have a hedge #druid ritual/meditation at my local stone circle.

#Ostara – the #VernalEquinox or #SpringEquinox - marks the time when the sun passes over the celestial equator in the Northern Hemisphere. Many modern pagan traditions celebrate the season’s change from dark winter to brightening #spring. The roots of this equinox celebration are found in ancient pagan holidays: #Eostre and #Liberalia.

  12. It's less than two weeks until the Spring Equinox (Ostara), the date when night and day are of equal length. It's wonderful to see everything gearing up for the year: we're watching birds chase one another in courtship (and territorial disagreements!), green shoots beginning to appear on shrubs and trees, and early Spring flowers blooming!

So here are just a few of our favourite cards of the season :) Art by Samantha Symonds, Rachel Blackwell, Sam Cannon and Amanda Clark.

  13. Today next door had an egg hunt in our front garden but one of the eggs has not been found. I expect a bumper crop for next year.

  16. Achievement unlocked: Pagan minister leads Easter Sunday service for local church.

The sermon included mention of chocolate bunnies, rainbow-colored eggs, jelly beans, daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths, #Eostre as goddess of Spring, the story of a bird reborn as a rabbit, and plenty of joy and hope.

I gave JC a break and left his name out of it, as I suspected he was tired of hearing it from too many other places today. 😀

  17. Happy Ishtar

Tree screen from McMichael Gallery grounds, Kleinburg

The word Easter appears to be derived not from Ishtar, but from the German Eostre, the goddess of the dawn—a bringer of light.

Ishtar and Easter appear to be homophones: they may be pronounced similarly, but have different meanings.

    Don't believe every meme.

  19. I'm an atheist and as such I don't think much about Easter.

I do, however, enjoy watching millions of people around the world sharing eggs, worshipping rabbits and other such pagan rituals.

  21. I had to zoom in really hard to catch it, but our benevolent bunny has returned. So far, far more interested in nibbling grass than any of our plants. Kind of looks like a nice watercolour. #gardenVisitors #garden #wildlife #eostre #oldGods

  23. So I recall people liked when I posted about Imbolc last February, so here's a post about today's (well, technically Monday's) northern hemisphere #neopagan festival, #Ostara!
