  1. We organised a session on “Bringing #OpenScience into action: The role of educating young researchers” at the #EOSCSymposium2024. The report is now available.

  2. Colleagues from GÉANT and over 15 #NRENs took part in the #EOSCsymposium2024 last week in Berlin, many contributing as speakers or session leads.

Alongside the successful launch of the #EOSC #EUnode, the Symposium offered plenty of sessions to discuss present and future of EOSC.

  3. ➡️ Earlier this week #NFDI colleagues attended the #EOSCsymposium2024 in Berlin. We had a chance to learn more about the EU-level open science infrastructure and services and discuss the common challenges faced on international & domain-specific level.

👥 We were also there with colleagues from #Base4NFDI and the #KGI4NFDI service which includes #NFDI4Culture participation via @tibosl @lozross

  4. Busy start of the week with the #EOSCsymposium2024 in Berlin and participation from various #NFDI colleagues. Learning more about the EU-level open science infrastructure and services planning was insightful and revealing in terms of how common challenges are faced on international / domain-specific level. Paths towards meaningful federation are becoming tangible.

@tibosl & @tibhannover were also represented with our involvement in #Base4NFDI and the #KGI4NFDI service.

  5. now on my way back from berlin to cologne after a busy #eoscsymposium2024 . while it was a great event and very informative on the general strategic level, i think some more "hands-on" sessions would have been nice as well. was hoping to be able to follow some of #nfdixeosc #eoscxnfdi from afar, but despite the fact that most @NFDI 's are on mastodon, there's close to no tooting about the event :-(

  6. It's hard to believe how quickly the 3 days of the #EOSCsymposium2024 have flown by.
Many thanks to the organizers for their great work. Many thanks also to our colleagues who made it possible for @helmholtz_hmc to represent HMC in person at the symposium. In addition to the lightning talk by our colleague Constanze Curdt yesterday, our poster, which was created together with @nfdi4energy was also very well received and provided an excellent basis for some interesting discussions.

  7. The #EOSCsymposium2024 has ended, but I spontaneously joined the @NFDI x EOSC event. I'm curious about the lightning talks coming up.

  8. For those #eoscsymposium2024 attendees curious about the #eoscxnfdi satellite event we can attend, I found the program here:

  9. We are delighted that our #HMC colleague Constanze Curdt was invited to give a lightning talk today as part of the last thematic session of the #EOSCsymposium2024 😊 👏

  10. 📸 Just a quick peak into the today's panel on EOSC impact and opportunities on the infrastructure landscape with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Sonja Schimmler about the topic of "Base4NFDI: Basic Services for the German Research Community".

  11. The #EOSCsymposium2024 is an important event for networking and exchanging ideas with political decision-makers, funders and representatives of research institutions, research communities and data and e-infrastructures active in the EOSC ecosystem.

We will be there: Our institute director Prof. Dr. Manfred Hauswirth and our researcher Prof. Dr. Sonja Schimmler are very active in the community and will make strong contributions.

  12. Base4NFDI provides a framework for defining potential basic services based on user-driven requirements analysis (comming out of the other NFDI consortia). The goal is to set up a NFDI-wide basic service portfolio. Basic servies already kicked off include e.g. PID4nfdi, DMP4nfdi, nfdi.software and jupyter4.nfdi #eoscsymposium2024

  13. NFDI in a nutshell .... 26 domain-specific consortia (and Base4NFDI).Cross-cutting topics identified: (meta)data, teminologies, provenance; common infrastructures; training & education; industry engagement. #eoscsymposium2024

  14. most discussed topic at the #eoscsymposium2024 "deep dive into the eosc node" session is the credit points system. and the room pretty much just went wild when the answer to one of the questions was "if you create a group, the credits avaialble double because we support collaboration" 😆

  15. so, initial data volume available to researchers on the eosc EU reference node is 50 GB, if I understand correctly #eoscsymposium2024

  16. The launch of the #EOSC EU Node services, announced yesterday at the #EOSCSymposium2024 by the @EUCommission, marks a critical milestone in its goal to accelerate scientific progress & #innovation through #OpenScience across #Europe open-science-cloud.ec.europa.e

The EOSC #EUNode includes a set of services that address key challenges in modern #research, allowing users to operate efficiently within #data-intensive environments and to collaborate across borders— within a secure & integrated environment

  17. does anyone at #eoscsymposium2024 have the link to the program for the nfdi satellite event taking place? i heard that it was mentioned this morning that the participation is open to all symposium attendees and it's not a per-invite-only thing.

  18. 🤩 NFDI4Culture is currently represented at the EOSC Symposium 2024 (eosc.eu/symposium2024/) in Berlin with a joint poster by #adwmainz and #fizkarlsruhe on the topic
📄 ‘Finding interdisciplinary connections - Implementing FAIR research information in NFDI4Culture’.

  21. Just realized I’m in the best gender balanced panel ever #eoscsymposium2024

  22. The participants in the discussion at #EOSCSymposium2024 agreed that #FAIR #RDM must be integrated into the curriculum as quickly as possible in order to achieve a multiplier effect.
On the other hand, however, this will not be enough to reach all levels of academic levels. There are dependencies that Bachelor students cannot break through. Therefore, in my opinion, it is not enough to focus exclusively on training for early career scientists.

  23. Here's the link to the 2024 report that has come up a couple of times during the #eoscsymposium2024 legal issues session:
"Improving access to and reuse of research results, publications and data for scientific purposes"
    data.europa.eu/doi/10.2777/633

  24. "There's no prohibition to share data based on copyright, the only reason not to share would be GDPR and personal data." says Irene Schlünder, pointing out that more data should be required to be shared and that this is a political issue #eoscsymposium2024

  25. "There is no ownership of data" says Irene Schlünder at the #eoscsymposium2024 session on Legal issues along the research data cycle, "but those who control the data can of course put restrictions on access or license it". Schlünder points out that data is collected and not created.
