There are dedicated infrastructure services as well, the TIB is putting a lot of work in there already with Repositories and I think @Lambo is already playing with the OSN sandbox as well... But there is also the #NFDI or - think big - #EOSC or other community driven services...
And I totally agree it would be nice to have a social space to connect and keep in touch in between projects for those of us (me) without a tenured affiliation. -

I just animated an interactive quiz using Razzia [1] (OSS kahoot alternative) deployed on a #EOSC virtual machine [2] and it went flawlessly and was free [3] 🙂
I do recommend trying Razzia or EOSC if you had the opportunity !
