Drinking Ent wine like there is no tomorrow
    a nice vintage this
they don't make barrels from oak of course
I wonder where- and how -
    but not for long
    the music's starting
    wine in veins bids me
to dance "so hasty" #Poetry #Writer

  14. Families are inextricably entwined, tied together to each other over generations.

At times, these bonds are strong and unbreakable and can withstand the most tumultuous of tempests. Often, however, families become fractured and the wounds that separate them can never be healed.

I tried to love him and connect, I honestly did. Ever since I was a young boy, all I ever wanted was for him to turn around and say that he was proud of me. But all he ever saw was my eldest brother who could do no wrong. Not the slightest sign of affection would ever come my way. It was as if my siblings and I were invisible.

My mother was the one who nurtured and cared for me. A kind and gentle soul, she loved all of us in equal measure. A tender touch, a warm embrace and a word of encouragement would always come our way. We always knew we were loved.

I grew up and had my own family, living in the shadows of my brother. I loved my children with all that I am and I did everything I ever could to show it. My father was ageing, the sands of time passed quickly and a life of excess were finally catching up with him. He became more reflective and wanted to make amends.

The arrival of my son brought tears to his eyes as he held him in his now frail arms. By this time he was not long for the world. He gazed into the newborn's eyes and clutched him tightly.

He tried to say those words, but even now as death loomed, he could not.

I would not repeat his mistakes.

    This is new.
    Hair, skin, arms,
    Entwined in light.

    By now, our
    Electricity has fused
And bound us to each other's
    Sweat,
    Tears, extremities.

    With each
    Inhalation, every
    Touch, we drown in the
    Holiness of bodies.

    The only thing
    We are is
    Obeisant to lust.

    Bite me,
    Arch me,
    Cut me,
    Know me, my
    Succubus.

  26. Connecting what our parents said or did, it’s easy to get their lessons wrong. Example and inference entwine as truths that may not serve us well.

It’s heavy work fixing everything for everyone. Not sure I’ll unlearn that lesson before I die, Dad!

    To my kids:
    Don’t do as I say.
    Don’t do as I do.
    Not without asking why first.

  28. we are enmeshed
    in nature, entwined,
    inseparable.
    an interconnected
    web of intra-related
    intra-actions.
    we cannot unravel
    them to know where
    we start or end,
    even to know where
    our edges are.

as i write, i hear the
    blackbird's strident call
    outside my window
    as he flies past the
    zingy yellow flowers
    of the mahonia.
    i sit here imagining
    the many ways we are
    part of each other
    and how to love all
    the exiled parts of me.

  33. Time runs all at once
    My past and future selves
    Entwining themselves
    Around me
    Guiding my thoughts
    Stymying my action
    One wretched with fear
    Dissociative
    One glories with hindsight
    Authoritative
And I am in the middle
    Suffocated
    Watching with eyes
    That have seen the dawn
    And wait for the sunset
