I remember how magical Spotlight on OSX was when it came out and how quick the Linux community wanted to come up with something similar.
Decades later, I can't even remember when I found something meaningless on my computer, despite using OCR on everything on it.
Everything is so painfully broken and we accept every year a little bit more of it.
The frog literally gets boiled slowly.

The GameCube was my last Nintendo console I was excited about (still love its design), but the company turned into such an unsympathetic thing that just nickels and dimes its customers wherever it can.
Hard skip for me when I see the Switch 2 and their pricing and product strategy.

Does anyone know how #entshittification can be prevented in business?
Maybe having principled leadership and private ownership, or being very careful who you take investments from?
I'm thinking of Steam as a good example.

TIL: #Entshittification of #FR24 #Flightradar24 #Flightradar seems to have begun.
Didn't know until now (when I got switched into the #Contributor plan) that they have apparently sold 35% to Private Equity.
It's just a matter of time until more and more features will get paywalled, I guess.

Hetzner Domain & Codeberg Pages
Benutzt irgendwer in meiner timeline eine @hetzner Domain zusammen mit @Codeberg pages und hat das zum Laufen gebracht?
Da es bei Hetzner keine alias gibt, versuche ich das ganze mit A, AAAA, Cname für www, txt , und dann noch CAA fürs @letsencrypt Zertifikat.
.domains ist auch im root Codeberg folderFunktioniert leider noch nicht.
Hat das irgendwer schon geschafft?

Doing it wrong…
...because I don't know how to do it right... Well, it's not really wrong, but according to a growing group of people, it is. So I feel some pressure because I feel that "I need to do it right", but I don't really know how. Or, I kinda know, but I don't have the spoons, expertise, or concentration, to change things... I wanna do things good, I don't want to get people mad at me because I "mess it up", but there is no one I know that could help me with the things that I "should" make changes with. Some people make these changes sound so simple, but I am sure that I am not equipped to "easily" do it as well... If only... 😔 […] -

However:
It did not have in-app purchases.
Oh, it didn't come with #ads.
It had no direct or indirect #expiration date where it stopped working altogether.
It continued working even when its original #manufacturer went out of business.
You really owned it.
It had no dependency to the #cloud.
There were no features that stopped working because of some remote marketing guy decided so.
It didn't contain call-back routines to the manufacturer.
It did not listen to its surrounding and generate #voiceprofiles for all people you meet.
It didn't spy on its buyers and sell those voice profiles an other very personal #data to #brokers which resell to #insurances, #advertisement companies and worse.
You could actually go to any electronic shop to get it repaired.
It was not overpriced.
It just played #music. It was perfect.

I am aware there is this "library sync" thing in Music, but I think it's different from what I want.
iTunes on Mac used to be able to play tracks from any iPhone connected via cable, without permanently copying anything in any direction. That feature seems to be gone (likely long ago, haven't used it for years).
Search engines are also trash, can't find any traces of this old feature, no matter how I phrase the query.

Finally got around to watching Cory Doctorow’s talk from this year’s DefCon. I’m SO ANGRY right now about “platforms”, products build by good meaning developers, conned into building crap services. Yeah, this talk brought me some clarity.

The amount of people that look at me as if I lost my mind when I launch in essentially the same rant is astounding. Don’t people think anymore or have they just given up.
Most tech companies getting rid of their ethics departments (if they had one) doesn’t help as well.
