@ente Last two Ente Auth updates on F-Droid (4.4.19 & 4.4.20) have been published but I can't easily find a changelog for them.

Last one I found was for 4.4.17.

It doesn't feel reassuring to run updates on such a security sensitive app without properly informing and disclosing the content of those updates. Especially as the 4.4.20 version doubled the apk size (??)

Utilizo a tempos depois que #Authy descontinuou client desktop.
Sim, ele tem client para desktop.

If you are like me, then you might have installed the #GoogleAuthenticator app, back in the days when it was the only solution out there for #TOTP #2FA.

But that is long ago. Since then, #Google has closed-sourced it's solution, forced #cloudsync otto it's users and stores these information unencrypted; plus it's suspected to collect even more data from you than needed. And it's a US BigTech company.

I've looked into a couple of alternatives and landed with #Aegis and #EnteAuth which are both excellent #free #opensource choices from #europe. I went with @ente because of it's larger platform support.

So why are you not already using an alternative? It's super easy, and took me less then 10 minutes:
1. On GoogleAuthenticator go to the ☰
2. Select transfer codes
3. Select all the codes you want to transfer --> Google will create a number of QR-Codes, each containing 10 accounts.

On your alternative say import, and scan the Google codes and you're good to go and can let go of yet another proprietary US BigTech dependency (and thus liability).

If you are already using a different #TOTP #2FA app on your smartphone, which one is it, and why?

@RadioAzureus yes, i switched from authy to #enteAuth when i knew, that authy stopped the export possibilities.

Als #authy den Export nicht mehr unterstützte, war es natürlich mühsam, die Daten alle umzuziehen.

Ich hatte mir eine Liste gemacht und dann nach und nach alle Dienste auf #enteAuth umgezogen (#2FAS wäre die zweite Option gewesen).

Genau so werde ich das nun mit allen meinen benutzten US-Diensten machen: in einer Liste alle Abhängigkeiten sammeln und dann nach und nach umziehen.

Trying #EnteAuth as a replacement for #2FAS but it kinda bugs me that I can't add custom icons nor can I sort the entries other than alphabetically. I can add tags to have the 2 or 3 most important ones on one page though.

goodness gracious #authy is such a trash #2fa provider. i can forgive the data breaches (not really) but depreciating and BRICKING the desktop app is unforgivable. the obviously know that because the make porting out code secrets IMPOSSIBLE. you have to manually reset EVERY account. i guess you get what you pay for…. i hope @ente auth is different in that aspect. its already been way easier to use and far more aesthetically pleasing! #ente #enteauth

@kaiserkiwi i would recommend Apples internal password/mfa solution, if that is enough for you (but it's only exportable with MacOS IIRC).

Otherwise there is #2fas, which sounds very secure.
