More and more often simply deactivating JavaScript execution and/or refusing cookies gets you blocked by certain websites (looking at you Leroy, French hardware store). I mean, incompetence costs you customers. But you know *why* this is?
Right: Ad companies like Meta and Google and *drumroll* "AI" splotificators scraping the weg en masse. -

I am afraid that Elon and Zuckerberg cooked themselves in when they allied with certain interest groups and #enshitified their product in the quest for ad money. #Facebook will start limiting links too for professional accounts trying to keep people on a platform that is dying from scamming, reels and AI slop. History of business is not going to be kind to those who destroyed global agoras for ephemeral gains.

Garage doors, #enshitified with wireless. The home I bought has some 10 year old Liftmasters that work with #Ratgdo controllers. @ben just installed it in a server, and while it looks really promissing, I noticed an add promising an Amazon voucher for those willing to go pro.
Besides finding it so alien to (self-hosted) #FLOSS ethos, that mad me wonder if this is already #enshitified since inception.

The example I'm going to use for this today is Microsoft's recent transition of the Microsoft Photo App to the CoPilot, OneDrive, entagled mess that is now the "default" Image Viewing App in Windows 11 25H2.
Microsoft got a LOT of gripes about the app during WindowsInsider testing, but they want everyone on CoPilot and OneDrive, so it was pushed out anyway.
The "concession" to folks that hated the new app was to continue offering the older, faster, non- #enshitified app on the Microsoft Store.

Great. MS has been a productivity suck with each successive “upgrade” ever since.
So finally last week i acheived a significant productivity boost, at least temporarily. I cut the internet on my MS365 exchange and for a short time everything works great and lightning fast. As soon as the cloud is back everything slows back down and Excel starts crashing, and my MS IT guys can’t fix it.
So #enshitified , the only way to solve this is move to #Linux and open source sw.

The skilled(now fired) team is creating wanderer.to. They are trained and experienced.

Github, LinkedIn, Skype, Visio, it all gets killed and subsumed by a Teams feature nobody asked for, on an #Enshitified OS "as a service" with non-optional AI-BOT overseers and screen captures...
Probably DOS and PC-BASIC are the only good ever done by MS, and still in wide use in 2025. And they trained lots of people who eventually got better jobs. -

What is the least #enshitified home office / all-in-one printer right now? I was gonna get a Brother until @pluralistic 's recent blog about them. HP is off the table. Canon? Epson? Something else? Is Brother still best of the worst?

It seems like almost all of the REST clients with a decent GUI have #enshitified. Postman and Insomnia both have unknown practices regarding where your requests are made from, engage in telemetry without sufficient disclosure, and do not sufficiently protect secrets to allow them to be accessed from their cloud environments.
This trend of formerly open source projects being hounded by VC firms to enshitify (like Bruno's maintainer describes) is disturbing.
