Today i want to thank #Google and #Samsung , #Meta and #Microsoft
It is because of their general #enshitfication, their greed for more control, personal data and monopol, their force feeding of Ai in every nook and cranny and their focus on algorithms for ads for new shit instead of making the shit i just bought work, that i use my Phone, Smart TV and PC less than ever and instead find back to analog joys, hobbies and people.
With #AiSlop filling the internet, it looses its appeal too.

That is great and frustrating at the same time. This "enshitification" is totally a natural result of trading stuff. There is 0 difference between supermarkets putting a 5.99 price on food, or putting candies where people stay in line to pay, or deceiving people with those old ads on TV, and Facebook, Youtube and the like adding clickable ads in the middle of a video or making it play the next video automatically, or not making it clear what is a post what is an ad....
These are trade-based goods and services, and for them to sell, you have to engage in these "marketing" practices.
THIS IS NOTHING NEW!
Pretty much all companies and individuals do these in order to sell shit. All need to be biased towards their own business. Even the local small businesses are doing it. Everyone does it.
So instead of selecting a few of the most outrageous practices, call them shitty, and point the finger at them, better do 2 things:
- Understand why these products are "shitty". It is trade, the need to trade, that makes people put more ads, collect more data, etc.. Currency, data, or attention trade.
- Simply make 2 categories: trade-free and trade-based. If a product or a service is trade-free, it means it does not want anything from you, the user. Not your data, not your currency, not your attention. Therefore why would it want to make that product or service shitty?
Makes no sense.

Side note....I like Louis but for fucks sake man start prioritizing a Peertube instance and post there rather than on the "shit" youtube....

muss ja nicht zwingend so kommen, aber ich habe inzwischen soviele Plattformen gesehen, die nach ihrem Verkauf kaputt gemacht wurden #enshitficationSpannend, da auch das @KM_BW mit seinen Lehrkräften bei Threema ist.

Seize ownership. You fork, not to make another browser to compete, you fork to say "this is the source of truth now, out of Mozilla's hands". Fork #Firefox, call it NotFirefox (the name doesn't matter) and declare this as the place for volunteers to submit their MRs, all Firefox-based browsers commit to using that repo as their base. Take ownership of the community away from #Mozilla, make them have to do the merging and rebasing work for their AI shitbrowser.

Thinking 5 years out, we could be in a place where, for some information, the authoritative sites have gone out of business, and others have just given up trying to get views, so Google’s answers become even worse because its data sources (the sites) are not updated or don’t exist any more. There’ll also be no good site link results because there are no good sites trying to compete with AI answers.
Seems like a new form of #Internet #enshitfication could be on the way.

@dangillmor The mistrust to institutions as outcome of their #enshitfication can be considered as a tragedy. But alternatively, understanding what is going on with institutions and why is first step to new society where state, as bureaucratic swamp of these completely rot institutions is literally unnecessary. Essentially, #anarchy as decentralized society that is civil, smart, and strong enough to live without the state.
