There are both significant demographic and political reasons why we would expect US #HigherEd enrollment to drop over the next several years. Schools like New York University and UC San Diego will be just fine; schools like WVU will likely have to wrestle with significantly smaller cohorts than 15 years ago; for some small liberal arts colleges and regional unis, it may be existential. #EnrollmentCliff

A colleague in the US forwarded this news: West Virginia University is proposing to cut 9% of its degrees in response to declining enrollment. This is just the beginning. We’re going to see a lot of this kind of thing in US higher ed in the next few years. There’s a kind of perfect storm coming for not-elite US universities, and It’s going to be a bloodbath. #HigherEd #HigherEducation #EnrollmentCliff
