  4. In my latest blog post you can get acquainted with Sara Teasdale's poem “Spring Rain”, first published in 1917.

In many ways typical of her style of writing, the poem is simple yet deep, using imagery from the natural world to reflect on the poet’s emotions and memories: stormy, thunderous, passionate.

  6. Did something happen ‘in the beginning’ or ‘at the beginning’? And what happened ‘in the end’? Or is it ‘at the end’? 🥺

Likely due to influence of Serbian / Croatian – most of my students’ mother tongue – I also often hear ‘on the beginning’ and ‘on the end’ (na početku, na kraju). 😫

Which one is it? In, on, or at??? 😭

Well, if you're dying to find out, you'll just have to check out my latest blog post! 😘

  8. It may be St George's Day today, but more importantly for me, as a girl born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, it's #Shakespearesbirthday

I painted this #map of all the plays of #Shakespeare to commemorate the 400th anniversary of his death, which was also 23 April. The man was a genius.

  13. It's the spring equinox and the time for another quarterly ebook. This time it's a short story by Sherwood Anderson (1876-1941).

"Departure" is about a young man leaving his small hometown to begin a new life in a big city. As he sets off, thoughts about the familiar people and places fill him with melancholy.

It’s a bittersweet story that I hope you will enjoy! As always, there are vocabulary explanations in the footnotes.

  24. Right from the beginning, the author creates a dark and gloomy atmosphere of a harsh winter’s night. The spell she is seemingly under is a “tyrant” that completely paralyzes her. Yet at the same time, there’s something resilient about the poet...

Dann jetzt eben #EnglishTeacher, Staffel 2.

  29. One of the most frequent mistakes I hear from students has to do with the use of the words “work” and “job”. 😬

  39. In my latest blog post you can read Carl Sandburg’s Halloween-themed poem “Theme in Yellow,” and do a simple vocabulary exercise.

It's a playful, festive, and wonderfully evocative poem - unusually written from the perspective of a pumpkin! If you love this time of year as much as I do, I’m sure you’ll enjoy “Theme in Yellow!”
