  1. The “three cleaning brothers” of engine oils - detergents, dispersants, and solvency - like Andersen’s ducklings: one may seem ugly? but all three keep the engine clean

  12. One of the world’s (1977) first semi-synthetics from the small but very patriotic Conklin company. They still make oils today, mainly for farmers, and some of them are pretty good and interesting. But that semi-synthetic was one of the very first of its kind.

  13. Engine oil is cool because the actual mechanic was like it doesn't matter bro, top it off with the same SAE weight and you're good. Dudes on a forum will be like "you're using something without esters? Good luck with your busted engine dude" and I am here just wanting to know if the two kinds of oil are made to similar standards or if it's even worth it to pay more. As far as I can tell it's not, unless your car needs very specific stuff. But it's all fucky, the same car and the same engine will have different specs depending on whether they are sold in Europe or north America & I don't know why other than maybe regulation? Why else would the same engine demand ACEA A1/B1 5w30 in the USA and ACEA A3/B4 in Europe?

    #engineoil knowers assemble lol
