It's utterly MAD that heat pumps that warm a house are GOOD THINGS ( with a govt subsidy of £7-9k) but heat pumps that cool a house are BAD THINGS that use precious energy.

Truly we live in the idiot times. When the right information is but a click away.

To be clear, heat pumps are amazing things that take an input of 1 kwh and turn it into 3 to 4 kwh of either heating or cooling.

Interesting read. 🙏🏻 Didn’t realise there were already so many in Australia (“251 data centres already operating across Australia, according to DataCenters.com, with more in the development pipeline”), hope they’re paying top shelf for their electricity (rather than sweetheart deals meaning we pay more for ours - mine had a huge jump this year, imagine it’s the same for others, no sign of the promised 3 free hours daily yet either). 🤔

On the jobs created question: “… data centres do create jobs, but they are not necessarily going to be supporting a huge, ongoing workforce and, according to the Brookings Institution, data centre advocates "overstate" potential employment benefits.” 🫤

And on construction jobs they’re competing: “University of Melbourne senior lecturer in construction technology M. Reza Hosseini warns a data centre construction boom could result in a shortage of workers to build much-needed new houses.” Great. Not. ☹️

At home, it's candlelit and battery on the MacBook Pro.
