The Conversation: Using diesel generators to power the AI revolution would kill hundreds of Americans a year. “The exact results varied with each simulation and with a range of assumptions about emissions from diesel generators. But in general, we found that using backup diesel generators this way would cause about 500 more premature deaths per year in the U.S. compared with getting the same […]

The Register: We’re all going to be paying AI’s Godzilla-sized power bills. “I see a race coming between the bursting of the AI bubble, the cracking of our already overburdened electrical grid, and all of us shivering in the winter and baking in the summertime, as AI-driven costs and brownouts make us miserable in our homes.”

The resources used by AI algorithms is enormous - it's the reason why I don't use any AI features.
Do less harm to the planet, and use AI only for when it's really necessary (for me, I don't find it necessary at all!)

Today’s new thing:
Try to save 75% on our usual energy usage between 17:30 and 18:30Another Octopus saving session, but at a more difficult time in the evening and this time we were at home, so the challenge was:
To eat in the dark (with toddler and try to explain what’s going on and keep him entertained)
Turn off everything that could safely be switched off to get to under about 6p per kilowatt hour (kWh). We got it down to 5p per kWh.
