  1. @futurebird @g

It's a travesty the #OrangeToddler 's hatred for any efficiency anywhere killed the budget for #EnergyStar.

But (at least for now) most (all?) refrigerators on the market still have the yellow energy guide label.

Anyone looking to purchase a refrigerator (or other appliance) should check the excellent info on the energy star website: energystar.gov/productfinder/p

  2. All for energy efficiency - but when appliances start dying with 1/3 the lifespan of older ones, is there really a net benefit? 😡 We have a freezer built in the 1940s that still runs.

  3. #EPA Retreats From Plans to End the #EnergyStar Program
The agency has faced blowback from business leaders and Republicans over plans to end the popular #energy #efficiency program.
#LeeZeldin, the administrator of the #EnvironmentalProtectionAgency, has quietly retreated from plans to eliminate Energy Star, a popular program whose iconic blue labels help #consumers to choose energy efficient dishwashers, refrigerators and other home #appliances.

  4. @GiftArticles “Since its creation in 1992, Energy Star has helped households and businesses save more than $40 billion annually in energy bills, according to a 2023 federal report. The E.P.A. has spent a fraction of that amount — about $32 million — to run the program each year.” #EPA #EnergyStar #USPolitics #efficiency

  5. Trump wants to kill #ENERGYSTAR – here's how that impacts you
Launched in 1992, ENERGY STAR has saved #Americans more than $500 billion in #energy costs while slashing #greenhousegas #emissions.
Efficiency labels and education from ENERGY STAR leads to more affordable energy bills for customers. Ending the program means less clarity and guidance for how to choose the more efficient option, which means higher costs month after month.

  6. “The nonprofit Alliance to Save Energy has estimated that the #EnergyStar program costs the government about $32m per year, while saving families more than $40bn in annual energy costs.” So of course #Trump is abolishing it. #Trumpland apple.news/AJtw2a1ImRK2...

  8. Industry groups are not happy about the imminent demise of #EnergyStar - arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20 "endorsed by manufacturers and well-recognized by U.S. consumers, who have saved an estimated $500 billion over the past 33 years"

  9. #Trump admin announces plans to shut down the #EnergyStar program engadget.com/big-tech/trump-ad

“It’s technically illegal for a presidential administration to end this program without Congress...”

  11. 🌟 Looks like someone wants to dim a bright idea! The Energy Star program costs $32M but saves Americans $40B annually. That's like spending a penny to get back $1,250!

As an efficiency expert (I sleep 16 hours daily), I can confirm: this math checks out. Save the star that saves you $450/year! ⭐️

  12. CW: Green/renewable energy Pol

So we've got 50% our electric energy generated wasted/used by transmission lines, to/from large centralized generation/collection centers, 30% globally wasted/used just by the US Military, leaving 20% used by everyone & everything else, including the power hungry #DataCenters & #GenerativeAI .

We're now building large centralized solar, water & wind energy/electric generation points, with machines that unlike smaller units, can't really be recycled.

We've also got #ElectricCars which don't yet have batteries lasting long enough to even makeup their extra energy use costs in manufacturing, added to their use mostly using grid power (which in the USA is still over 60% coal fired power plants) to overall make them burn any less carbon than a fully gas powered car, nevermind a hybrid.

We've likewise got "#EnergyStar" appliances, which in theory are supposed to cut carbon emissions, but similar to the electric car, don't actually manage to do so.

I'm not saying "we should do nothing" at all but I'm tired of the mantra on this of "something is better than nothing" when in the cases of wind farms, solar farms & purely electric cars using grid power, are indeed "worse than nothing" as #Greenwashing isn't helping any being in need of help.

  13. "The goal of the AI Energy Star project is similar: to help developers and users of AI models to take energy consumption into account. By testing a sufficiently diverse array of AI models for a set of popular use cases, we can establish an expected range of energy consumption, and then rate models depending on where they lie on this range, with those that consume the least energy being given the highest rating."

  15. Ordered an (#EnergyStar 7.5W) #Acer monitor, put the futon out to cat pasture, and changed my living room, formerly the Futon Room, into my bedroom. #cicnyzskalenjo is an unusual place with an unusual HVAC regimen.

  16. ⚮⚮⚮All righty, I am a happy camper! Just had to peruse #EnergyStar for a suitable monitor.
    ⚮⚮⚮Also, I need a firmer mattress.

  17. Washers and dryers are about to get a whole lot more efficient

"The Biden administration announced new washer and dryer efficiency standards that ... are in line with current #EnergyStar efficiency benchmarks, and will apply to equipment produced after March 1, 2028.

The government estimates that the measures will shave $2.2 billion a year from Americans’ utility bills and, over 30 years, eliminate 71 million tons of planet-warming carbon dioxide emissions."
