  4. What’s next for the Nigerian left?

Although the #EndBadGovernance protests attempted to address lingering questions from the #EndSARS era, the potential for the left to transform Nigeria’s political landscape remains a question.

  5. @davidaugust There would have been no #EndSARS in #Nigeria without it either.
During the recent #NigeriaElections2023 the fact that Elon Musk tweets were strenuously promoted reduced the spread of information about ongoing voter suppression.

  6. @gotofritz @GottaLaff There are some movements that would not have happened, such as #EndSARS in Nigeria. Facebook does not let such things grow unless that are paid for or generate engagement. It can't happen now under Musk's Twitter, and a lot of the rigging and violence during the recent #NigeriaElections2023 did not get as much attention as they should have because #GalaxyBrain put his tweets (and his "friends"') at the top of everyone's feed.

  7. @RadicalAnthro oh definitily, no doubt at all. Really no reason or indeed point in cynicsm or skepticism at all for this, I feel. It did all grow out of #ENDSARS and it’s definitely a massive opportunity and moment of change, for a #NewNigeria

  8. @aljazeera really good report on #Nigeria and the role of social media ⬆️ in today’s #elections. I’ve been following the #Obidient movement grow out of the courageous #EndSARS protests in 2020, it’s been the most impressive political mobilising and organisation that we can all learn from. This can be a real #Inflection moment not just for 🇳🇬 but the world. I am rooting for #PeterObi and 🇳🇬 brave #Youth, fighting to improve their hard, hard lives

  9. #Nigeria is holding general elections this Saturday. I'm rooting for #PeterObi and the #LabourParty!

#Nigeria doesn't have a great presence on #Mastodon yet, but if you feel like it join me in suporting the #Obidient movement, which, growing out of the couragous #EndSARS protests 2 years ago, has been THE most impressive political organising movement I've ever seen. A Labour victory would be amazing and is possible. #PeterObi

  10. @cjd "SARS" is "Special Anti-Robbery Squad", a police task force that regularly extorts, brutalizes & murders innocent young people. Hence the protests, & also about poorly thought out government policies. The military were deployed when peaceful and well organized protesters occupied a lucrative toll plaza in a posh part of economic capital. The food aid was mostly from domestic sources, and was being distributed widely albeit slowly. The #EndSARS hashtag is quite informative.

  11. @cjd This isn't what happened. The #EndSARS protests were for a different reason, as well as why protesters were shot at. Granted the lockdown did increase frustration and some local government officials hoarding did not help matters.
