I want to use the last day of the year to thank the community here on Mastodon.
Every day, I learn things here that are worth learning. The discussions are, by Internet standards, very polite and focused on the issues.
But most importantly, I see people here having a voice that they do not have in traditional media or in algorithm-driven social media.
That makes Mastodon extremely valuable, and we should all strive to preserve that.
The year 2025 has been a tough one, and I have little optimism that 2026 will be easier. We will likely see a further rise in authoritarianism, fascism, and racism.
To stem the tide, we must work together. My wish for the coming year is that we continue to see others fighting the same fight as allies, even if they have different priorities for where they invest their energy.
But please take care of yourselves. Do not feel guilty about time spent on self-maintenance. Keep this in mind: You can only help others if you are first in a position to do so.

It’s about this time of year I like to check my backups and download my archives.
One archive I download is the archive of my Mastodon posts. Pretty much the only one now I’ve left the corporate web really.
I also like to copy the contents of my public fediverse posts into my own diary within my vimwiki.
Keep it all in one place for easy and local search.
Here’s the script I use, it’s very short and just copies the content of every post in the archive into a new diary entry in the vimwiki diary.
If it finds something already there, it appends.
It checks if it’s already written this post into the diary to avoid duplicating it when you run it over and every again every month or year or whatever.
Paste it into a new text-file called toVimWiki.php, download and unzip your mastodon archive, and run the script with php, passing it the path to the archive’s outbox.json and the root diary directory.
My diary is honestly mostly just public posts these days. Ain’t much in it I won’t blab about on the internet for likes and lols.

I just finished my 9th round of watching Babylon 5. I actually started late last year, but I took a break in season 5. Season 4 always feels like a wrap with the following season more like a follow-up.
It is still my favourite show, and I will watch it again. But maybe I will give it a couple of years.
I have a lot of TV series in my watching list, and I'm trying to wrap them up while I have a couple of weeks off. 😊

Welp now I’m torn. We have worked our asses off to get the app in UAT for internal testing. We worked to get it done before the team is off on Wednesday. We got it done on the Friday before. We committed to having it ready for January 1. Do tell the users early and have to deal with the deluge of questions and reports ? Or do we just take the time to enjoy the quiet into our well deserved long break ?
