@neal People are smart. They understand language, punctuation, and characters which break up a word, like hyphens and underscores.
Those are not "blank space".
Blank space means a word-break.
Just because somebody wants to write "My Pictures" does not mean that they can't understand this will lead to a hellscape of pathnames, and they learned that in elementary school. I did.

Why there are so many "do" and "don't" about Italian food? Same reason why there are so many weird rules about how to dress, how to behave on a LoL server etc: soft power.
If you have a ton of pointless rules you can create a in-group and a out-group. And since people want to be in the in-group, you now have some degree of power over them.

This is neither new, nor limited to Italian food, but in any case you better remember that 99% of those rules make no sense.

Whenever you write something, you are (consciously or subconsciously) writing it for a target audience. The way you write to explain something to a pre-teen or to an adult is different, and both are different from how you would write if your target was a toddler etc etc
Scientific papers are no exception. There are of course well written and badly written scientific papers, but all of them have as their target audience other scientists, often only those in a specific subfield.
Expecting specialized scientific papers to be immediately understandable to everyone is completely missing the point of a scientific paper.

I quite dislike the term "everyday people" or "everyday Canadians" etc. It's a garbage term. What are the other people? Weekend people?

People are people all the time, not just on certain days or when they're working – eg the similar "nine-to-five people."

At worst it could be seen as dehumanizing, which is what the ultrawealthy try to do to the disadvantaged. Such language buys into that.

Man I hate July 4th. Reasons:

1. Nationalism
2. Environmentally damaging
3. Trauma for folks with PTSD
4. Trauma for animals

Fireworks are beautiful. No doubt. But they cause suffering.

I don’t hate anyone for celebrating. I just hate that it exists.

I figure that everyone should be able to set the tabs in an editor to whatever works for them.

small fonts on big screen need more space to see offsets.

Folks with old tired eyes need a different setting than folks with young rested eyes.

Computer should work the way I want, I should not have to work to make a computer's life easier:-)
If they dont work the way I want, then I fix it.

But recently I came across some actual WEBSITES published on GitHub and they looked really nice.

I hope people stop wallowing in geeky stupidity and create some real Websites there because otherwise I'll continue to ignore whatever they have to say through the REALLY SHITTY USER INTERFACE ON GITHUB.

The #DailyMass readings today include the story of Susanna from book of Daniel. The lady is falsely accused of adultery by two elders in retaliation for resisting their sexual advances. At first she is condemned, because of course everyone believes guys 🧐. Thankfully Daniel intervenes and the assembly reconsiders their verdict.
I find this a hard reading to sit through. But paradoxically, I'm always relieved when the lector actually reads the whole reading. Look it is long either way -- so just read the whole thing -- it makes so much more sense.
Plus, I particularly resent the fact that the short version starts at the end of verse 41 -- by snipping out the words "Because they were elders of the people and judges, the assembly believed them and condemned her to death."
Yup.

I get that many #bookbloggers don’t want to read self published works. That is fine. I’ve seen many that state they are unwilling to do so. I’ll just skip reaching out when I see that. What’s getting to me is the word “not capable.” If you are not capable to read my books that’s likely a deeper issue that either they don’t know how to use an app or don’t know how to turn a page. Which, in that case if you are “not capable” to read then why are you a book blogger? #endofrant #writingcommunity

Either they just don't care about these aspects - which to me makes a mockery of the sci in sci-fi - or they have no one with even a modicum of science knowledge or common sense consulting on plot and visual effects.

Of course such a person would probably say "Why not have a drone ship fire a tactical nuke at the monsters?" and there would be no movie then. That might have been better for everyone except kids and adult kids who love monster movies and giant freekin' robots. #endofrant
