"Greenpeace International said Monday that the MY Arctic Sunrise—one of its largest and most storied vessels—will be taking part in the upcoming Global Sumud Flotilla relaunch in order 'to directly challenge Israel’s ongoing blockade of aid to Gaza.'

"The green group said the Arctic Sunrise, an icebreaker that’s been part of Greenpeace’s fleet since 1995, will be 'sailing alongside more than 70 vessels and over 1,000 participants' in the second Global Sumud Flotilla, which is scheduled to set sail from Barcelona on April 12, with subsequent stops in Syracuse, Italy, and Lerapetra, Greece en route to Gaza."

#Australia is demanding criminal charges over a 2024 Israeli airstrike on an aid convoy in #Gaza that killed seven people, including an Australian aid worker, the country’s prime minister said Wednesday in a case that has drawn sweeping condemnation and strained relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he conveyed the request to visiting Israeli President Isaac Herzog during a meeting earlier in the day.

Australian Zomi Frankcom was one of four #WorldCentralKitchen aid workers killed by an #Israel drone on April 1, 2024. The other aid workers were an American-Canadian dual citizen, a #Palestinian and a Polish national. Three British security staff were also killed in the same airstrike.

The strikes on Nasser #Hospital in #Gaza killed at least 20 people. A Times visual analysis calls into question what the #Israeli military was initially targeting there, and why its troops attacked a second time, killing first responders and #journalists.

  6. The #UK is putting grandmas under house arrest for peacefully protesting against #genocide

    Ricky Hale and @cemedia
    Aug 05, 2025

"A wave of protests against Israel's genocide has kept UK counter-terrorism police rather busy because they have decided peaceful #protesters count as terrorists.

"One such 'terrorist' is 74-year-old Audrey White who has a body count of *checks notes* zero. She was planning to kill a further *checks notes* zero. She was also planning to hurt zero people and spread zero terror. Horrifyingly, White held up a sign at a peaceful protest and brave police officers saved us from this murderous grandma. I bet you're feeling safe now, aren't you?

"Audrey White has spoken to Skwawkbox about the draconian way police have treated her. She has also posted several statements on Twitter, explaining her ordeal and expressing similar sentiments. She asked social media users to share her words which start with thanking everyone who has supported her."

  7. Tens of thousands turn out for #Sydney pro-#Palestinian march

by Katy Watson and Tabby Wilson, August 3, 2025

"A planned pro-Palestinian protest across the #SydneyHarbour Bridge has gone ahead after it was authorised by the Supreme Court just one day prior, in what organisers called a 'historic' decision.

"Tens of thousands turned out for the #MarchForHumanity on Sunday despite torrential rain - with many carrying placards with messages to politicians to stop the war.

"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was spotted among the protesters, with other notable attendees including federal MP Ed Husic and former NSW Premier Bob Carr.

" 'Shame shame Israel, shame shame USA,' the crowds chanted. 'What do we want? Ceasefire. When do we want it? Now.'

"Lots of families, many with small babies, came out to support the peaceful demonstration. Alongside them, stationed across the bridge, were police officers from the #RiotSquad.

" 'I know it's the other side of the world but it affects us here massively as well,' says dad Alec Beville, who compares the children in Gaza to his three-year-old son Frankie. 'We could be helping a lot more with aid.'

" 'Our government hasn't put any decent #sanctions on #Israel,' says Zara Williams as she carries her baby, Avery, in a sling. 'We [Australia] just can't do nothing while there's a forced starvation of an entire population.'

"Two hours into the march, attendees received a text from #NSWPolice that read: 'In consultation with the organisers, the march needs to stop due to public safety and await further instructions.'

"It asked everyone on the bridge to stop walking north and turn back toward the city in a 'controlled' way.

"Police have estimated that 90,000 people attended Sunday's march.

"Transport for NSW told motorists to avoid the city, warning of major delays and disruptions across Sydney's road and public transport network due to the protest.

"Sydney-based activist organisation #PalestineAction Group lodged a notice of intention for the march across the Sydney Harbour Bridge last Sunday, in response to what it called the 'atrocity' in #Gaza.

"Police rejected the application on the grounds that there was not enough time to prepare a traffic management plan, and warned of a potential crowd crush and other safety concerns.

"In a statement the following day, NSW Premier Chris Minns said they could not allow Sydney to 'descend into chaos' and would not be able to support a protest of 'this scale and nature' taking place on the bridge.

"The police also made an application to the NSW Supreme Court for a prohibition order for the event, which was declined just 24 hours before the protest was due to go ahead.

"According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Justice Belinda Rigg said safety concerns regarding the march were 'well founded', but march organiser Josh Lees from the #PalestineActionGroup had 'compellingly' explained the reasons why he believed there needed to be an urgent response to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

"She said there was no evidence that a prohibition order would enhance public safety, and ordered the Sydney Harbour Bridge to be closed to vehicles, in addition to roads surrounding the proposed route.

"The final-hour authorisation gives attendees protection under the Summary Offences Act, meaning they will not be charged for offences specifically relating to public assembly, such as blocking traffic.

"In a statement published to Instagram, the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies said that it was 'disappointed' by the Supreme Court's decision to authorise the protest on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. [Yeah, well, I'm disappointed that some Jewish folks support #Genocide!]

"#Australia has been under mounting pressure to recognise #PalestinianStatehood, after #France, #Canada and the #UK all separately indicated that they would do so with conditions at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September.

"Speaking on ABC's 7.30 programme, Prime Minister #AnthonyAlbanese said he wants to see conditions met that achieve lasting security for Israel before Australia commits to recognition of a Palestinian state.

"He added that he would not be pushed into the decision by other nations." [Well, maybe you'll be pushed into the decision by your own CITIZENS!]

  15. 'A despicable disgrace': #BobGeldof condemns #Israel over #Gaza hunger

    Updated / Friday, 25 Jul 2025

"#LiveAid founder Bob Geldof has condemned the Israeli government's role in the Gaza crisis, calling it 'a despicable disgrace' and saying it is deliberately #StarvingChildren.

" 'Their government is clearly out of control, and their army probably as well… It is a despicable disgrace. And for the Israeli people to allow this in their name is a despicable disgrace,' he told Prime Time.

" 'It is so utterly bizarre that we're talking about #Israel, given the horror of their own past. It is bewildering to me,' he said.

" 'I was the founding patron of the #AegisTrust for #GenocideStudies, which is a branch of the British National #HolocaustMuseum. I spent many times with the survivors of the #Holocaust' he told presenter Miriam O’Callaghan, 'were they alive now? They would possibly die of shame. The shame of this, Miriam, the shame for Israel... This is unconscionable.'

"His comments come amid escalating warnings from UN agencies about catastrophic levels of #starvation in Gaza.

"Earlier, Louise Wateridge, a senior emergency officer with #UNRWA, described the situation on the ground as 'completely unbearable,' with people stepping over bodies at aid centres in desperate searches for food.

"She said more than 6,000 aid trucks - half carrying essential food and medical supplies - are currently blocked just outside Gaza by Israeli restrictions.

"#UNICEF also warned that ongoing bombardment and mass displacement have rendered large parts of Gaza inaccessible for #humanitarian operations, with basic health and nutrition services near collapse.

"Mr Geldof appeared on Prime Time after a report featuring footage and images taken in recent days of #malnourished and hungry children in Gaza.

"In the report, #Oxfam aid worker #BushraKhalidi described the actions of Israel as '#CollectivePunishment,' while #CarolineWilleman of #DoctorWithoutBorders, speaking from northern Gaza, told Prime Time that she had never witnessed anything like what she was seeing currently during her career.

"She described how #Palestinian colleagues who are caring for sick and dying children are themselves unable to feed themselves or their own children.

" 'We are witnessing a #genocide,' Ms Willeman said, 'we are witnessing a genocide because we are witnessing people from whom food is being upheld, from whom water is being upheld.'

" 'It literally is beyond our comprehension. Look at your face, look at the aid workers there,' Mr Geldof said, 'What are we living in? I cannot look at those pictures. Obviously, they remind me of 1984, but in completely different circumstances.'

"Between 1983 and 1985 a major #famine erupted in #Ethiopia as a result of #drought and conflict. Footage in the news media drove Mr Geldof and #MidgeUre to found #BandAid in 1984 to raise funds for #FamineRelief initiatives.

"A year later, Live Aid, a two-event concert performed simultaneously in the UK and US was held. It featured some of the most famous music acts in the world at the time."

Some Arab Americans who voted for Trump are concerned about his picks for key positions

    By JOEY CAPPELLETTI
    Updated 12:22 PM EST, November 18, 2024

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — "Just a week after winning several of the nation’s largest Arab-majority cities, President-elect Donald Trump has filled top administration posts with staunch Israel supporters, including an ambassador to #Israel who has claimed 'there is no such thing as #Palestinians. '

"Meanwhile, the two Trump advisers who led his outreach to Arab Americans have not secured positions in the administration yet.

"The selections have prompted mixed reactions among Arab Americans and Muslims in Michigan, which went for Trump along with all six other battleground states. Some noted Trump’s longstanding support for Israel and said their vote against Vice President Kamala Harris was not necessarily an endorsement of him. Others who openly supported him say he will be the final decisionmaker on policy and hope he will keep his promise of achieving an end to the conflicts in the Middle East."

  24. Thousands March in #London to Demand End of #FossilFuels and #GazaGenocide

'We won't stop until political leaders #divest from #war and destruction—and invest in a just, #ecological, and equitable transition,' said one campaigner.

    Brett Wilkins
    Nov 16, 2024

"Thousands of #ClimateJustice advocates took to the streets of London on Saturday to demand the U.K. government 'end its reliance on fossil fuels, commit to paying #ClimateReparations, and end its complicity in the #genocide in #Gaza.'

"Organizers said more than 60 groups—including #ExtinctionRebellion, Friends of the Earth [#FOE], #Greenpeace, #AmnestyInternational U.K., #PalestineSolidarity Campaign, #WarOnWant, and #JustStopOil — took part in the March for Global Climate Justice. The demonstration took place amid yet another shambolic United Nations #ClimateChange Conference and as #Israeli forces continue a war on Gaza that U.N. experts this week called 'consistent with the characteristics of genocide.'

"More than two dozen associated #protests were held in cities and towns across #Britain and #Ireland, including #Dublin, #Edinburgh, #Manchester, and #Sheffield. Over 150 actions around the world are planned for what organizers are calling a #GlobalDayOfAction for Climate Justice on Saturday.

"'Thousands of us united today in a historic mobilization on the streets of London, across #GreatBritain, and worldwide to demand an end to the era of fossil fuels and an end to the genocide in Gaza,' Climate Justice Coalition national coordinator Angus O'Brien said in a statement."
