I've been assisting @gendodoggo migrating his PC over to #Linux over the last two days. His PC was already "not supported" by Windows 11 and will stop receiving updates entirely now. So he asked me to help with choosing a distro and setting it up

At first he wanted to dual boot, just to ease the transition, but Windows didn't want to shrink the partition because something something immovable files 🙄

After some fruitless faffing about we said fuck it, we ball, just wiped it clean and put #EndevourOS on it as the only OS. Surprisingly effortless, Nvidia with GNOME Wayland worked out of the box! We did run into some issues when the machine went into suspend and didn't come back up. We also had one or two system lock-ups I'm not entirely sure why they happened. We assume it's got to do with moving stuff around from the NTFS partitions, so we can reformat remaining drives to ext4

Either way, I'm glad he's giving Linux an honest shot (once more) and it spares me the trouble to figure out roundabout ways to do stuff on Windows that are really just a few commands on Linux 😝

I have been trying to build #docker images of crossposter projects with no avail so far using #linuxmint; it's fine for casual daily driving but it being Ubuntu which being Debian means that the packages are old with old bugs. I think I will try the #archlinux based #endevouros in a #virtualmachine, I heard it has newer packages.
Or invest into #programmingsocks.

I have a vague feeling running something Debian rather than Arch based would be a bit more streamlined. A lot of apps (e.g. Discord, VS Code, Slack etc) are like "here is a .deb have fun, or a .tar good luck". So far I've actually been able to sort things out anyway though so maybe that's ok.

I like that it feels very clean from cruft.

To prove that anything can be salvaged and run #Linux, I went ahead and nuked #macOS from this #MacBookPro and replaced it with #EndevourOS. I also had #Debian 11 running for a bit too to see what I wanted to run. Debian was a bit too bloated for the box, but EndeavourOS seems to be smoothly sailing along. #virginialinux

dovrei scrivere un sacco di roba sul mio blog dedicato all'#opensource, ma in questo periodo non è ho semplicemente voglia. Ma sono sempre li a smanettare, conoscere e testare nuovo #software sia su #linux che su #android. Tra le altre cose sono uscite le nuove versioni di #kodi e #libreelec e io lo sto scoprendo adesso. In questo periodo sono anche passato a #endevouros e questa particolare cosa mi ha fatto scoprire un altro mondo.
Documenterò tutto, scriverò un sacco, ma non adesso, adesso voglio semplicemente scoprire e smanettare come piace fare a me e come non ho smesso mai di fare dal 2007 fino ad ora

@B4tuhanY1lmaz @nobodyinperson I've had Manjaro nuke my system every time I gave it a shot. It's painful troubleshooting someone else's #arch install, the documentation sucks. It's got soo much junk installed that gets in the way of troubleshooting.

Please if anyone else sees this don't install Manjaro on your main system. I've used arch for years half of the time using stock gnome or kde. You should really understand arch if you try any spin of arch but I do recommend #endevouros

Using #EndevourOS (which is Basically Arch) with X11 and KDE Plasma. I guess "Dolphin" is my Filke Explorer? (not 100% sure) but if i graphycally copy files from one folder to the other, is there a way of a little more detailed "copy window" Maybe more like the Windows one or even a bit better? Showing me Data rates and the Files that is copyied in that moment?

e niente mi è successo nuovamente!! mi sembra di essere tornato ai tempi di #compiz e #gnome2 un viaggio nel tempo, ho installato una #endevouros senza desktop manager con #hyprland su un vecchio laptop e il risultato è stato fantastico, non solo mi sono ritrovato un ambiente fluido e gradevole agli occhi, ma mi sta regalando anche un piacere che avevo dimenticato, lo scoprire nuove cose. Poveri utenti windows non sapete che vi perdete

ok!! ecco il mio ennesimo cambio di distro, ma stavolta su base arch e siamo parlando di #endevouros, a quanto mi dicono molto vicina ad arch pura, chissà come mi ci troverò, sicuramente esteticamente è uno spettacolo!!

A pesar que uso #parabolalinux he decidido tras escuchar a @podcastlinux No 183 con @salmorejogeek probar #endevouros y no cabe duda que el instalador #calamares hace maravillas. Usar la #terminal es un lujo.

@silvereagle I made the switch on my desktop a couple of months ago, everything that I used that was windows only just works, there were a few quirks with #steam but they were easily rectified by installing the #flathub version rather that the repo one, a thing I recommend doing for all the desktop apps you want.
My desktop is a bit long in the tooth now but having #endevouros & the cinnamon desktop running is like I've just went out and bought a new top of the line machine.

#todayIWill catch-up on Module 4 of my #scrimba course before moving on to Mod6: responsive web design.

Meanwhile, I've been intrigued by the Casini #endevourOS, so I'm going to give that a try.

I think I bit off more than I can chew with this #EndevourOS install. I'm trying to use an LUKS encrypted Lvm2 volume to hold my root and home partitions but the Calimari installer seems to really not like that setup.

Going to follow a guide I found on the endeavour website but if this doesn't work I might just go for an Arch install.

Wow ! #Arch made a change to mkinitcpio-archiso making it copy image to RAM on boot if enough detected .. Nerfed #XeroLinux install process, but thanks to #EndevourOS team for helping disable that feature fixing things. #Linux #xp
