The only thing I really need to do is get an IDE that works well with C/C++ and I am fucking laughing on EndeavourOS. It didn't take me long to get it all set up. Got the few minimal programs that I will need to get thing done on my laptop.

Codelite wouldn't run correctly in Distrobox...I will have to investigate that. Checking on my other options for IDEs that I can use to practice C language with. As there are so many which are cursed with LLM integrations and I want nothing to do with any of that shit.

At last, I have the pure thing.
I can be happy.
Honestly, it was not difficult to install. I just had to read carefully and know what's where.
Whilst distros like #EndeavorOS and #LinuxMint and so on already had their desktop engine going... I could choose anything whilst installing the arch.

In general, I feel little to no difference compared to using Endeavor... welp, I have to get all packages myself but at least there's no Firefox...

Picked up a #Thinkpad P1 Gen2 Xeon laptop the other day, with 64GB of RAM and 500G drive, 4K touchscreen. Less than 300 bucks.

Did I need it? Ummm, well, not really. But, come on! It's in spectacular shape, works well, will make a great device to build some vms with. Eventually I want to get a #guix home setup with it, but for now it's running #EndeavorOS.

I think it's my favorite machine right now. Kind of the big brother to my kids' T480's

A new release of #EndeavorOS (#ArchLinux) announced

EndeavourOS “Mercury Neo” released!

After EndeavourOS “Mercury” got released on February 10th, the team behind EndeavourOS has released a March 2025 refresh of the same distribution version, called “Mercury Neo.” It brought updated versions of all applications, including the following:

• Calamares 25.02.2.1-2
• Firefox 136.0.2-1
• Linux 6.13.7.arch1-1
• Mesa 1:25.0.1-2
• Xorg-server 21.1.16-1 (xorg)
• Nvidia 570.124.04-4

This makes sure that your system is up to date with the latest version of all software released with this version of EndeavourOS. Mercury Neo only affects new installs, but the team ensures that your system is running fine if you upgrade regularly.

The xwaylandvideobridge package has been removed upstream, so the install scripts no longer refer to it as it has already been deleted. In addition to that, obsolete NVIDIA-specific boot menus have been removed to clean things up.

For users living in some regions, the Arch mirror ranking stage, which is run before installation finishes, has been fixed so that it can correctly rank some Arch mirrors to prevent installation failures.

For UEFI systems, if you try to install “Mercury Neo” with systemd, the EFI system partition is generated with 2 GB in size instead of the smaller 1 GB size.

I bounced off Kubuntu LTS but I may have found a home in Endeavor OS, which I guess is the exact opposite. It's my first time on an Arch based distro in years, not counting SteamOS.

Sunshine works perfectly, as does everything else so far. It's obviously the most rolling of rolling releases and I'm sure I'll end up breaking it somehow, but until then I'll try and stick with it.

I don't know what it's doing when it does, but if the software you type at the command line isn't installed, it automatically tries to find a viable package for installation.

I really like that feature about @garuda !

That said,

Just installed Endeavor OS on a new work laptop (I have permission to do this). I think this will be my default distro from now on. It's very, very close to Vanilla Arch, but installation is *far* less time consuming.

Так вот, я воспользовался научным методом и провёл бесчеловечный эксперимент на родне.

Должен сказать, что я не знаю людей, которым я могу рекомендовать этот дистрибутив.

Наверное разве что только тем, кто ставил какой-нибудь Calculate или Sabayon чтобы потом превращать его в Gentoo через боль, а теперь хотят поставить Arch не ставя Arch.

Это обычным людям лучше в руки не давать.

Hi guys what is the best #Linux OS to play #steam and #gog on a PC?

There are some indie games I would like to play, and I would like an OS that behaves as a console, and you control it through a Joypad.

I read about #SteamOS but it is tied to #Debian Jessie, but the latter is not supported anymore though, is SteamOS still supported?

I thought I could install somethong like #EndeavorOS and run into #GameHub and that's it.
Can I use GameHub with only the joypad? Updates and likes would be done through SSH.

What do you recommend for easy #gamingonlinux?

I think i'm kinda out of ideas...
Ok so what happened was, i installed this thing with systemd-boot enabled, i use refind and was booting it trough doind two confirmations, you know, by booting systemd-boot trough refind, then the system, but i thought i could make refind recognize the system directly, so i went and did bootctl remove, to remove systemd boot, it did its thing, i knew rebooting at that moment would brick my boot but okay i didn't, so i tried running refind-install to update refind, maybe it would find the system directly with that? (Yeah, dumb idea) and guess what, i went and rebooted after that, yes, refind booted up empty as heck :pinkiecrazy:

I have a bootable usb, tried a bunch of stuff, from reinstalling systemd-boot to grub, nothing fixed my boot so far soo...
Does anyone at #linux there know something i could try? :twilightsheepish:

Okay, gonna give #Linux another shot today.

Last time I tried a couple weeks ago, it ended in unmitigated disaster after hours of trying. Let's hope this week goes better. I need to at least get a basic distro working so I can start testing Linux builds of game, even if I can't get it working well enough for day-to-day development.

I'm making a couple changes from last time I tried:

1) I'm simplifying my monitors. I normally have 5 monitors, operating from both the ports on the PCI GPU as well as the built-into-the-motherboard GPU ports. Windows was able to handle that with no problem, but I think it's an uncommon enough setup that it's making Linux choke. I think I can make it work with 4 monitors on just the dedicated GPU.

2) I'm trying more distros. Before I shut down Windows, I'll have 7 different labelled thumb drives: Linux #Mint, #ubuntu, #xubuntu, #PopOS, #Fedora, #EndeavorOS, and #OpenSUSE

Unfortunately, I can't currently switch from NVIDIA graphics cards because of a vendor requirement of one of my clients, so that's just a limitation I'll need to live with.

Here's hoping I can get it to work this time.

Hahaha, the EndeavorOS installer goes out of memory and dies if the system has only 2 GB of RAM. :drgn_scream_stare:

Well, to offline installation i go, not doing all that box checking again

The error seems to be with something related to pacman -Su failing, maybe it's something with the mirrors but I'm not gonna try to fix this unless i really need it, spent too long on this live sistem already

Okay after a couple of hours, I am definitely feeling not nearly as hostile to Arch as I did since the last time it tortured me. #EndeavorOS really is that good.

But.

1.) They massacred the .bashrc file. It looked like it was robbed of half its content and I could not get either color on or my alias file to work. I ended up copying the one from my Pi and pasting it in and voila!

2.) nanorc had syntax coloring turned off by default. Yes I do know how to turn it on but why?

Someone was giving away a bunch of things on the side of the street, managed to find an old PS4 controller. I'm not much of a controller person but I decided to give it a try with #hollowknight. Worked out of the box on #endeavorOS #archlinux

I'm still used to keyboard controls on HK so it's taking some getting used to. The default mapping is a bit iffy imo. But it's been interesting nonetheless. Going to give it a try on #splitgate

Setting up replacement laptop with #endeavoros, thought I would take the time to make a #bash installer script so it's easier in the future.

@codemonkeymike I've been running a couple ASUS C202sa chromebooks with firmware from #mrchromebox and #endeavoros (one KDE and one i3) and they are my go-to devices. Not fast but usable, biggest issue is that they only have 4GB ram. I'll look into the Lenovo Flex 5, thanks!

I shudder to think how many gigabytes of "OSes" I've downloaded updating this one. 😂

i've been on sway for a few months but kinda miss kde. kwin-bismurth didnt really work for me (lots of graphical errors and odd overlapping of apps)... is there a good kde/i3/sway alternative? I'll take a tutorial :)

could somebody help me with something...ever since installed #linux on my laptop - originally #Ubuntu, then #endeavorOS, pure #arch, and now another pure arch install, my touchpad has not worked...with an exception. It only works when I first go to the boot menu (f9) and select the entry.

Does anybody know what could be causing this? elantech touchpad
