💜 This Alzheimer’s & Brain Health Awareness Month, I honor my grandmother, Doña Patria, and the millions of families affected by this disease.
➡️ Progress depends on research, prevention, early diagnosis, and the caregivers who hold everything together.
💜To every caregiver out there: you are seen, you are valued, and you are heroes.

Thank you dear reader for this kind & generous review of Finding the Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, & the Brain, the #memoir I wrote with #UCSF #neurologist, Dr. Bruce Miller in honor of my father who died of #early-onset #Alzheimer's. For people interested in reading other books about #dementia, I would recommend #DashaKiper's Travelers to Unimaginable Lands, #SandeepJauhar's My Father's Brain, & #AmyBloom's In Love.

Today is the last day of #Alzheimer's & #Brain Awareness month. If you want to read about #dementia, consider #SandeepJauhar's My Father's Brain, #DashaKiper's Traveler's to Unimaginable Lands, #AmyBloom's In Love. Finding the Right Words, my #memoir, written w/#neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller, is about my father's #early-onset Alzheimers. We wrote it to share info. about #neurology, the challenges of #caregiving, & how brutal the #grief can be.
Remembering my dad today and everyday.

@IntentionallyBLANK. I am so sorry to hear about this incredibly difficult/painful/lengthy situation. I hear you about a care facility. If we are wise, we communicate to the people we love what we want. I recently read several books that touch upon different options. In case you're interested, there is #AmyBloom's In Love, #SandeepJauhar's My Father's Brain, #DashaKiper's Travelers to Unimaginable Lands. I also wrote a #memoir w/ #neurologist Dr. Bruce Miller about my father's dementia.

Having just read several recent #books/#memoirs about #Alzheimer's, I recommend #AmyBloom's, #DashaKiper's, and #SandeepJauhar's. Each tells the story of loves and losses (to borrow from Bloom's subtitle) in different and powerful ways.

This is an extremely difficult moment. My father may not have known me as his early-onset #Alzheimers worsened but I always knew he loved me. That understanding sometimes held me together. If this moment speaks to you, here are two excellent books about #dementia: #DashaKiper's Travelers to Unimaginable Lands and #SandeepJauhar My Father's Brain. I also honored my father with a #memoir that I wrote with #neurologist, Dr. Bruce Miller.

A beautiful book about #caregiving, #Alzheimers #love, and #fathers.

A beautiful, powerful, and learned book about #dementia, #grief, the #brain. Thank you #DashaKiper for writing it.

Read this. Learned. Wept. A magnificent book. #EndAlz

#DashaKiper writes about #dementia and #caregiving and identifying with the narrator of #Melville's #Bartleby. In #FindingtheRightWords, I write about identifying with Bartleby in that for a very, very long time, I preferred not to look at my father's #Alzheimer's. My dear friend, co-author, #neurologist, and empath #Dr.BruceMiller helped me look. He looked with me. My father died many years ago, but it remains extraordinarily hard and painful to look. https://lithub.com/what-melvilles-bartleby-the-scrivener-tells-us-about-memory-loss/ #EndAlz
