I took lots of photos on my #eMTB ride today
I also have limits on many I can toot. 🤷

Glorious, simply glorious. Of course I rode!
Worryingly local boronias that used to flower in October were out in abundance & smelling beautiful. So much spring!
St Helena ridge firetrail & back. Mostly firetrail with some fun overgrown singletrack. My handguards earned their keep today! Sadly, they didn't prevent one tree trying to rip my helmet & sunnies off, stealing my inexpensive earphone. It's gone, I searched. 🤷

Bafang adds a notch on Avinox power levels with new e-mtb motors.
800% support is quite something:

Ooh... @ai6yr, this comparison between a modern downhill mountain bike, an eMTB, & a Cannondale almost as old as yours just popped up in my YouTube feed. Not long after I was musing on the same idea. 😁
Sam Pilgrim, legendary mtb racer & nutcase takes them all on a timed run downhill. Can the old bike win? It certainly looks *exciting!*

I rode to Lake Woodford again.
Spring is sprung.
It was nice out in the bush, & spring is really putting the hammer down, with bursts of yellow, red, cream, purple, & blue popping out everywhere. Here are just a few.
I had fun. No crashes. Well OK, there *was* a little blood, but only a SPuD stack caused by poor line choice on a slow technical climb & failure to unclip in time. No real injury. 'Tis but a scratch, etc. SPuDs aren't crashes! 😂

It seems the Oaks is my go to distance ride. Today I added Euroka + Bennett's Ridge, & also Nepean Lookout, a first in 20y(?)
Records broken! 🏆

Even my max HR theoretically puts me at age 58, which I'll very happily take!10% charge remaining, but to get there I rode a lot in Eco, which I don't normally do, & none of the dowhills use the motor (assist is only to 25 kmh).

I find it annoying that locals living in @pilipinas use #ebike as a blanket term for #eMTB, #eScooters, #QuadBike, etc. They're all different folks!

Old(ish) vs new(er). A high-end 2013 Ibis Mojo HDR, & a midrange 2024 Rocky Mountain eMTB. Both have 170/160mm travel, are size M, & target the same riders.
Old: 26" wheels
New: 29"Old: 30spd 3x10
New: 12spd 1x12Old: 36mm fork tubes
New: 38mmOld: tiny
New: humongousOld: turns slowly for its day
New: bargeOld: lighter (heavyish for its day) ~14kg
New: heavy for any day ~25kgOld: me powered
New: me +Es poweredThe Ibis looks more like a child's XC bike!

Mr Garmin said I should keep recovering, but I risked it & went out for a relatively easy Lake Woodford jaunt. As you'd expect, glorious. Another perfect spring day in winter. Absolutely lovely out there.
I challenged myself on a short black sekrit trail & lost. 🤷 I just don't have the skills or lack of fear to do it. I could ride most, slowly, but some features are just nopes. That bridge is too high, skinny, & long for me to wobble across! Those gap jumps! 😱

Take 2...
Hurrah for bikes & glorious weather (ignores potential for severe bushfire season)!
The singletrack was flowing beautifully, & I rode like an absolute master*. A very enjoyable ride, & a great aerobic workout 😁

Unfinished business.
Today was my 2nd last chance to ride Anderson's firetrail from Woodford to Wentworth Falls, before it & others close for maintenance on Monday. Last time I crashed! Blood & swearing. Plans abandoned. Today, success!
It's XC with lots of waterbar jumps. Either direction scores a huge downhill, followed by a huge climb. Both ways doubles that. I almost rode up to Ingar again, but had some range anxiety & chickened out.

eMTB records!
61.6 km, 2hrs40, 1430m ascent. Most km/mth, & most riding in 12 years!New armour worked as expected—not needed! 😂 I scored my 2nd flat in a hell of a lot of km since going tubeless. 🤬 I'd just been wondering how many more rides I'd get from that tyre—only half! Looks like a knob's coming off. Luckily, I still carry a spare tube, & was soon up & riding again. Pre-tubeless I averaged a flat a ride, so I no complaints.😁 I already had a spare...🙄

🤦 If I'd ordered knee/elbow guards straight after the first crash, I would have had a good night's sleep, & wouldn't be limping...
I didn't get a manly Eagle Tactical™ design—I just don't have access to the testosterone shots needed to successfully carry that off. 😉
These have a D30 type flexible padding that gets stiff when you whack...err...😳 Hit something. A lycra style sleeve holds them in place.
Both provide protection exactly where I needed it. Who'da thunk it?
-
More positively, it was a great ride, apart from the stupid crash & blood. Lots of water bars for jumping—one jump was 7.81m with a hangtime of 0.74s! One of my biggest, for sure! You better believed I whooped & hollered! Possibly providing an *idiot coming* alert to the riders grinding slowly up just around the next corner🙄😂

FFS... After my last mtb stack, I ordered knee/elbow guards, thinking I'd never need them. I hardly ever fall off *that* hard.
They're due to arrive tomorrow...
See pic for today's simple "lost the front on a loose corner" effort. Warning: Contains wrecked tights, & blood, mostly because I reopened the old wound🤦
Not so bad I turned round, but enough that I chose a shorter alternative as soon as I could. 😂

Amflow continues to shake the foundations in 2026 and the PX Carbon Pro picks up where the first-generation flagship's ripple effects left off.
Now the frame is enhanced, with slimmer profiles, 40 geometry configurations and plenty more. What blows me away is the speed at which the software side gets updates, and I had another as I was writing this review today. Avinox is shifting digital gears at a pace I've never seen.

Another glorious day. I rode Linden Ridge (no. 2) firetrail, & explored some singletrack. The firetrail is up & down, out & back, lots of water bars for jumping.
The singletrack was very slow, overgrown, & occasionally blocked by fallen trees, disappearing after 2.5km in a rocky clearing. I've ridden this track years ago, but recall it ended much earlier.
I left it a bit late to also do the Mt Twiss singletrack.

Nothing special. Chaoyang brand, it's what came with my #bike. I think it's a decent brand. They're still okay. I probably won't need to replace them till next year. Any recommendations for #eMTB tires? 🛞I've had the bike about 5 years now and it's had only 2 punctures with debris. All the other times I didn't find anything (on the rim and on the underside of the tires) and those punctures on the inner tube were tiny. I'm inclined to blame the inner tubes. 🤔

Gloriously glorious in the Blue Mountains today, so I rode.😎
Anxious about knees, but wanting a longer ride than local shorties, I rode the Oaks. Any wonkiness by the far end, & I'd hop a train, halving the ride. If not, ride back.
No wonk detected, riding back it was. Feeling great, I nipped down to Euroka campground, & back up the Ironbarks trail. I meant to come up Bennett's Ridge, but whoops... There are often roos & wombats here, but I only saw ducks 🤷

Back to the scene of my crime^w crash. I had to ride it, if just to restore lost confidence.
As usual, it was great. A few minor strikes. I had a blast. No crashes. 3 fat hippies.
Only 3? Yup, the track was terrific, the rider 🤷 My previously non-wonky knee, which hadn't hit the deck, went wonky *again*, at the lowest point of the ride. The wonky one was fine 🤷
Oh well, only one real climb, so I put on my elastic support & cranked up those Es. Easy.

Apropos of nothing, I've been checking out MTB armour.
Crikey. Are Eagle Tactical involved?
Yes, yes, I get it's armour & needs to be tough. Some subtlety would be nice. I'm just an old bloke who rides a bit quickly sometimes 🙄, enjoys jumps, crashes occasionally & needs to admit I'm old enough such crashes could be serious. Hell, some much younger crashes *were* serious 😂
I don't want to be overdressed for 90% of my rides, otoh, today's ride normally doesn't need armour. It's slow!🤷

I'm going for a ride

Hah! Now I *have* to ride. I don't wanna

Why is the damn hill bigger? I'm knackered already. Stupid bike. Stupid exercise. Stupid mental health.
