I've had to learn the hard way that the long series that people rave about are generally loved mainly by folks who love long series. I'm not that person. However, there are a few that I felt were worth the time commitment.

Since I only have Kocowa until Friday, I decided to jump episodes, from 24-50! It's like the old soap operas I watched. Nothing was lost, other than the Crown Prince is finally the King. I can't fast-forward, so I manually moved ahead through all of the scenes containing side characters. I don't care about them. The majority are being directed to act like idiots. Very little of substance has occurred in the missing episodes.
BTW, one series that was worth every single episode is #EmpressKi. It's super engaging all of the way through.

Sadly, #EmpressKi has been suddenly dropped from North American Viki. It's a fabulous show! My complaint about many of the older sageuks is that far too much time is spent shouting "Majesty", or walking around pacae grounds. Empress Ki has none of that nonsense. Both of the leads are amazing, as are the costumes.

A question for #kdrama folks on here.. does anyone have a list of historical dramas that are vaguely based on real people and events in the correct chronological order. I really want to watch #TreeWithDeepRoots but feel I probably ought to watch some earlier ones first. Think someone mentioned #SixFlyingDragons but not sure how true some others are like #EmpressKi or #RedSleeve - thanks in advance 🙂

I was perfectly fine with the 51 episodes of #EmpressKi because there was really no filler. Each episode portrayed a gripping story, and one wanted to see what was next. Not to mention the gorgeous wardrobe that was a feast for the eyes. Both the Jewel In shows, Jewel in the Palace and Jewel in the Crown, had endless scenes of characters shouting Majesty, and various people walking across the palace grounds. They were interesting stories that I was happy to learn about, but it was stressful for me to watch so many unnecessary scenes in order to learn them.

Oh, I definitely don't have the stamina for that! #EmpressKi was the only long historical drama that I'm glad that I watched. Jewel in the Palace #DaeJangGeum and #jewelinthepalace #DongYi made me feel like ripping my eyes out after the first few shouts of "Majesty!".

I also loved the costumes in #MyDemon, including Song Kang's fluffy clavicle-bearing sweaters and her sword-dance hanboks.

Mr Plankton and Queen of Tears were certainly weepy shows for me. However, the one that I recall really making me cry at the start of the year was #MyDearest Fabulous characters continually separated by tragic times.
And then there was #EmpressKi!

Ah yes, #EmpressKi was what I initially intended to list. It was stunning!

@RomanticIsa it's a must watch! One of the screenwriters is Jang Young-chul, who wrote #Vagabond too.
Like in Vagabond, the plot is thrilling. Not a single episode is boring. It gets a bit too unrealistic at some point though. I forgive that for the sake of its length 😂.
And the costumes are marvelous too. I'm not that much into hanboks but in this case the costumes really make an impression! The maid ones are my favorite 😍.

There are many, but the sake of brevity imposed by the character limit in the Fedi instance I use I will mention only the one who got me out of my comfort zone: #EmpressKi (2013-2014)

I typically end up dropping historical dramas, but this one is a wonderful exception. Action, romance and fights for power topped with great acting and screenwriting.

#EmpressKi is indeed amazing! SUCH a strong FL and vulnerable #JiChangWook is fabulous.
#TheKingEternalMonarch has a badass FL and #LeeMinHo is luscious. So much comedy and intrigue in the show as well with parallel universes.

@commonst #JiChangWook is terrific and I’m assuming that you’ve seen him in #Healer. If you haven’t yet seen it, #EmpressKi is a master work, well worth the 51 episodes of watching time. The costumes are even more phenomenal than his amazing acting. #kdrama

The biggest stars of all were the costumes and jewellery! They were so visually stunning in every scene. It will be hard for me to return to monochrome Joseon dramas.

I've been watching #
MissNightAndDay
with a friend so won't finish for a while but I agree that it's not the strongest drama. It's clearly a lot lower budget than several of the recent releases. Still, it's pleasant and entertaining. #MySweetMobster recently completed and is much stronger with some similar themes.
I'll try to remember #SummerStrike when I complete the very long #EmpressKi.
