  1. “I had been #thinking about #AI as both a return to #labour that is owned — a part of #capital — rather than #employed, about two centuries after the abolition of human slavery, and simultaneously as a collapse in the price of intelligence.

The price of #intelligence is falling towards zero in the same way that the price of #communication fell with the invention of #PacketSwitching and TCP/IP. That is, the #Internet.” — Alan Kohler

  2. It should be #illegal to fire an #employee unless keeping them #employed will cause undue hardship to the #business as long as basic #human need are tied to #employment. The #boss should not be the one who decide what counts as undue #hardship.

  3. When the employed are pushed into homelessness – CBS Sunday Morning – YouTube

In America we are taught hard work is the key to success. But despite having full-time jobs, many families are locked out of the rental housing market, due to low wages, soaring rents and poor credit, and have been pushed into homelessness.

In this two-part report, senior contributor Ted Koppel talks with Brian Goldstone, author of “There Is No Place For Us: Working and Homeless in America,” about the big business of homelessness; and with families who have struggled to pay inflated rates at “extended-stay hotels” catering to the desperate.

  4. #Families should be able to afford #groceries and household essentials, whether they're #employed or not, whether they're willing cogs in the #capitalist machinery or not. The #system is fundamentally broken if there are still #people starving and left helpless. #Food and #water are a basic #humanright.

  5. #Freelance #editors who contract with #society #publishers and editors #employed by society publishers will want to read this post from The Scholarly Kitchen blog: scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/20

"Society publishers are facing an #existential moment. ... [T]here are huge #challenges ahead in terms of #revenue, #longevity of #publishing #operations, and the impact of #AI; many of which are amplified by a self-publishing exodus and the subject focus of the learned society. ..."

  6. An update for laid off via and the essential docs they need for their claims, including advice to those still about what docs they should be getting/downloading.

  8. Trump again [sigh] reiterates #ConspiracyTheories that #immigrants are taking the jobs of native-born Americans, including #Black Americans. The percentage of native-born #Americans who are #employed, factoring for structural changes in age, are higher than at any year of the Trump admin. That ratio for Black workers is as high or higher as it ever was during the Trump presidency.

  9. I can now say that I am officially employed once again!

My offer letter arrived in my inbox a bit ago and it has been signed and submitted.

I will start on-boarding/orientation on Monday at 9am EST.

This is a bit lower salary than what I wanted, but it's at least something to bring in some money and not just us living off what we have in the bank.

  10. Now I’ve tried #supplement #nootropics for #focus, realised much of my #fatigue is due to my wholebody #BackPain the muscle tightness etc, learned about #ADHD, #autism and #pda noticed how I don’t wake up until maybe 4pm, remember my #subconscious telling me “no” twice about looking again right after the last time I lost an #employed #job I’m getting to the point of acceptance that making my own living is just no.

Many years, I’ve been obsessed with the desire, trying to improve my #disability.

It makes a good point that democracy for workers doesn't solve the problems of the unemployed, but it is still an important step to gain democracy for workers.

  13. #Homelessness is not a moral failing. It is the design/result of #capitalism

The amount of #employed #homeless is actually shocking.
