  1. Should evidence retrieval rank by relevance, or by how much it helps the model reading it?

FER trains a fact-verification retriever on feedback from the claim verifier: a sentence scores by how far the verifier's confidence drops reading retrieved rather than annotated evidence. Test F1 on FEVER rises from 63.74 to 78.84, mostly from precision.

The verdict score barely moves, 0.2 to 2.9 points, since it credits only full evidence sets.

  6. This week the decisions for #COLM are out (8th of July) and the #EMNLP author response period has started (July 7-13).

If you're looking for an alternative #NLProc venue: please consider #INLG! (Either via ARR or direct submissions.)

INLG focuses on all aspects of language generation, and is an appropriate venue for work on LLMs, rule-based generation, as well as human language production.

Location: Utrecht (NL), just before EMNLP.

    Submission deadline is July 15.

  13. If you are at EMLP'25, I will be presenting shortly our work on LLM disinformation in low-resource languages, using Walliserdeutsch Swiss German dialect as an example.

TLDR; We show that a competent attacker can wreak havoc with model that have no declared performance in Germanic languages let alone WD. Since WD shares a lot of features with other low-resource languages, this means LLM disinformation in low-resource languages is much closer than thought.
