Since the late 80s, the typeface foundry Emigre Fonts has been publishing a series of specimen books. They were intended as promotionals. But they turned out to be inspirational eye candy for designers.
@letterformarchive compiled forty of them in the book “Emigre Fonts: Type Specimens, 1986–2024.”
It’s nostalgia gold for old-school designers. Something new for the young pups. I could stare at this for hours.

Around 2000 a friend and I were both designing full color print ads for a magazine and I remember him coming in on Mondays with new fonts from Emigre to test out. Clients were always surprised by what we did with them.

I found the idea interesting and started writing texts — "Couplets of a Pithecanthropus", "Monkey Chorus", "Feudal Tango" etc".

@jasonsantamaria I remember the #agency where I interned bought some fonts from #Emigre, and they sent us a T-Shirt with their logo (nothing fancy), which I totally stol… “borrowed.”
I remember walking around campus with it, and all the kids in #graphicdesign undergrad asking me where I got it! I explained that my agency bought and they thought it was a big deal, which it was (I have to admit): in #Brazil in the early 2000’s, most people just got bootlegged #fonts from the #Internet -
