Obecna funkcja Alarmowe SOS przez satelitę, która zadebiutowała w 2022 roku, to dopiero początek planów Apple.
Jak donosi Mark Gurman z Bloomberga, firma ma w przygotowaniu szereg innowacji, które mają głęboko zintegrować łączność satelitarną z codziennym użytkowaniem iPhone’a.
Według Gurmana, w Apple trwa wewnętrzna debata na temat tego, czy firma powinna oferować własną, niezależną usługę satelitarną, zamiast polegać na partnerach takich jak Globalstar czy potencjalnie SpaceX. Obecnie kierownictwo firmy jest jednak temu przeciwne, wychodząc z założenia, że „Apple nie jest operatorem i nie powinno się tak zachowywać”.
Mimo to, firma intensywnie pracuje nad pięcioma kluczowymi ulepszeniami, które mają trafić do przyszłych iPhone’ów:
- Framework dla aplikacji: Apple chce udostępnić łączność satelitarną deweloperom, aby mogli oni integrować ją z własnymi aplikacjami (np. komunikatorami firm trzecich).
- Mapy zasilane satelitarnie: umożliwi to nawigację w czasie rzeczywistym w miejscach bez zasięgu sieci komórkowej, nawet jeśli użytkownik nie pobrał wcześniej map danego obszaru.
- Bogatsze wiadomości: standard ma zostać rozszerzony, aby oprócz zwykłego tekstu obsługiwać także wysyłanie zdjęć przez satelitę.
- „Naturalne użytkowanie”: obecnie funkcja wymaga skierowania telefonu w stronę nieba. Apple dąży do tego, by łączność satelitarna działała „w tle” – z kieszeni użytkownika, z wnętrza samochodu, a nawet z niektórych pomieszczeń.
- Wsparcie dla 5G NTN: to prawdopodobnie najważniejsza zmiana. Chodzi o wsparcie dla sieci 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), co pozwoliłoby operatorom komórkowym na wykorzystanie satelitów do płynnego rozszerzania swojego zasięgu.
Ostatni punkt jest kluczowy, ponieważ rozwiązałby jeden z najbardziej frustrujących problemów współczesnych smartfonów: bycie w zasięgu sieci (jedna „kreska”), ale bez realnej możliwości korzystania z transmisji danych.

Yesterday, the Emergency SOS on my Google Pixel 7 triggered itself.
I was physically safe but quite miserable, sitting at my dining room table, head in my hands, phone on the table. My phone suddenly started buzzing, my spouse came pounding down the stairs, and then my phone battery died. I assured my spouse I was physically fine and went back to feeling miserable.
Meanwhile, two of my siblings were frantically trying to reach me but my phone was dead!

What an incredible world we live in. After plunging 250+ feet in the middle of a national forest with no cell signal, iPhone 14’s crash detection, plus Emergency SOS (satellite connectivity), successfully connected with emergency services to coordinate a rescue.
Hopefully this technology comes to more phones, and more countries—what an accomplishment from a public safety perspective!

Apple aktiviert heute SOS-Kommunikation per Satellit in den USA & Kanada. In Deutschland kommt der Dienst im Dezember. Er funktioniert auf iPhone 14 und 14 Pro.
Dienst kann genutzt werden, wenn man in Notlage gerät und keinen Mobilfunkempfang hat.
Für Deutschland ist der Service daher sehr sinnvoll! Zum Beispiel bei der nächsten Radtour in Brandenburg.
